People living in those areas prefer purchasing at Wal-Mart over other local small-scale retailers. Sobel et al. argue that the belief that big box stores such as Wal-Mart kicking small businesses out of operations is completely wrong (Sobel, 2008). After coming across these two types of research I decided to figure out whether Walmart and stores such as HomeDepot are the ones that have led to the shutdown of small stores in areas in which the big-box stores start their operations or are there other reasons and big-box stores being criticized wrongly. I even wanted to figure out through this research paper whether the buying behavior of Americans has any relation to the shutdown of small stores (Bickle, 2012).

The big-box stores such as Walmart and Home Depot are not driving small organizations out of business it is rather the American consumers, the inefficiency of small businesses, and the failure to compete of small businesses that are leading to shut down of these businesses.
