It will be showing the large corporations, such as those mentioned, have been increasing in number, while smaller shops have actually been decreasing in number during the same time period. This is also what the University of North Carolina (2013) mentions must be evident in a thesis statement for an argumentative essay. In order to argue effectively, such an essay must be based on sound reasoning that actually makes sense to the reader. It addition, the statement must not be faulty or contain any type of fallacy. The thesis statement generated here contains no such fallacies of any sort (University of Texas, 2013).
Finally, this thesis statement does leave room for a discussion of potential counter-arguments. There will be those that do not agree that mom-and-pop shops are closing simply because of the rise of large corporations. There could be other reasons such as a bad economy, an aging population, or other social factors that should be mentioned as well.
