I was happy with this book because it did not only highlight the political situation in Iran after the disputed election, but it touched on other issues such as religion, class differences, gender and violence. In my opinion, the book calls for understanding, mercy, compassion and unity when dealing with issues facing Iranians.
The main survival words in the book are democracy, election, and revolution. These words are essential in understanding the major themes of the book and the issues that one can learn as a result of reading the book.
Democracy is a form of governance system in which citizens have a wide say in all issues and decisions that affect their lives. In Iran, the ruling elites did not respect the principles of democracy and so they meddled with electioneering process in order to remain in power. As a result, the citizens engaged in protests that had profound effects on the country.
Election is a process in which people choose individuals to represent them in public offices. In Iran, the 2009 elections were not fair and so unpopular leaders took over the public offices. The disputed election led to conflicts that resulted in destruction of properties, loss of lives, and economic downfall.
Revolution is a fundamental change in power, social structures or economic system within a short period of time.
