Insert Insert of the Insert of the Insert assignment is due Zahra’s Paradise by Amir and Khalil While reading the book, I came to learn that in some countries such as Iran, democracy is a mirage and people do not have freedom to choose their leaders. What dismayed me was that people were maimed and killed because they were fighting for their rights. The Iranian regime did not value people’s life and so it subjected them to unfound atrocities in order to remain in power. I was sympathetic especially with mothers who lost their children in the green revolution and felt that the world failed Iranians because of its inaction against the evil that the regime was meting on its subjects.

I was happy with this book because it did not only highlight the political situation in Iran after the disputed election, but it touched on other issues such as religion, class differences, gender and violence. In my opinion, the book calls for understanding, mercy, compassion and unity when dealing with issues facing Iranians. The main survival words in the book are democracy, election, and revolution. These words are essential in understanding the major themes of the book and the issues that one can learn as a result of reading the book.

Democracy is a form of governance system in which citizens have a wide say in all issues and decisions that affect their lives. In Iran, the ruling elites did not respect the principles of democracy and so they meddled with electioneering process in order to remain in power. As a result, the citizens engaged in protests that had profound effects on the country.Election is a process in which people choose individuals to represent them in public offices. In Iran, the 2009 elections were not fair and so unpopular leaders took over the public offices.

The disputed election led to conflicts that resulted in destruction of properties, loss of lives, and economic downfall.Revolution is a fundamental change in power, social structures or economic system within a short period of time. After the disputed elections in Iran, there was a powerful green revolution through which the citizens who felt shortchanged wanted regime change . The green revolution resulted in death and suffering of Iran citizens.Work CitedAmir Baradaran and Khalil Nakhleh. Zahra’s Paradise.
