26 November Causes and effects of not getting enough sleep: Research reports on thecauses and consequences of sleep deprivation could be found in a staggering number each addressing different aspects of this problematic issue. General consensus is that sleep deprivation not only could lead to development of multiple illnesses over time but is also potential of making a person increasingly cranky. So, this essay is basically meant to illuminate three important causes and effects of not getting enough sleep as a way of exploring the reality of this consensus.

Sleep deprivation negatively interferes with the healthy flow of hormones responsible for regulating hunger and satiety which induces a person to develop disrupted eating pattern and feeling hungry all the time. This leads eventually to consumption of high-calorie foods to maintain energy level which could easily culminate in obesity. It is also stressed that women have a incidence of developing hypertension as a consequence of not getting enough sleep and hypertension is believed to speed up the course of heart disease.

This is because more stress hormones are released in case of sleep deprivation. Crankiness and aggression form most commonly observed behavioral problems in a person not getting enough sleep which seriously affect the quality of daily activities performed by him/her. This is because unhealthy sleep pattern affects the brain’s ability to “put emotional experiences into context and produce rational responses” (HubPages).Concluding, this much remains clear from the above discussion that sleep deprivation is a critical issue and propels the onset of multiple processes inside the human body which could culminate in obesity, hypertension, and behavioral problems.

This is why research stresses on making sure one is getting enough sleep as it helps in regulating personal health and wellbeing. Work cited:HubPages. “Negative Effects of Not Getting Enough Sleep.” 17 Jun. 2008. Web. 26 Nov. 2012.
