The novel uses language in a form that is easier to understand, making its language use, a reality. While reading the novel, the story flows as if it was being narrated orally (Lewis, 55). The theme of love is explored through reflections on his own young love affair during World War I. The theme of violence is connected to the action within the war, the human to human hostilities creating a balance between the horrors of mankind and the expressions of love in which he finds emotional challenges.
The paper tells that Hemingway provides a prime example of the classic narrative structure within his “A Farewell to Arms”. In studying and analyzing the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution, a reader is better able to spot and understand the key similarities and differences between every written work that they come across.
When Catherine and Frederic meet, Frederic is looking for distraction, adventure, and fun. He is American, yet his sense of adventure has led him to Italy to fight a war. He does not seem opposed to the war he is fighting in Italy’s army, but rather bored by it.
According to the research findings, Hemingway does not merely present the realities of way --- he condemns it. He states that it creates a situation that destroys mankind. With the use of rain to symbolize gloom and death, he lets the readers reflect on the war's ability to kill everybody --- heart, mind, and soul. It is a bitter rebuttal to the romanticists' glorification of war.
The conclusion from this study states that the tragic plot-structure of A Farewell to Arms is made all more effective through a continuous, dramatic juxtaposition of the opposing characters and incidents, themes and motives, which reveals through irony the dynamic tension the writer builds in the novel.
The conclusion from this study states that “A Farewell to Arms” is a great statement about the horrors of war. It is a tale of human endurance and fortitude. It depicts the development of the protagonist. A man without a clear vision comes to have a vision of love in life and at the end of the novel develops a stoical attitude to life.
The author uses a plain language to describe this reality. The themes in the novel are described in a simple and acceptable language that shows how the real life should be. Many authors like to use complex languages in their work in order to make their readers think deeply but Ernest Hemingway’s is an exceptional.
A symbol is a literary device used by the writers that contains different meanings, represents the overall mood or sometimes gives deeper meaning to the literary work more than that is meant or provided by the writers themselves .
