Television AFFILIATION: Television The television broadcasting industry has observed various advancements in technology. The very first advancement in television was the switching of television color mode from black and white to colored images. The appreciation from the viewers was immense because they all liked to watch TV in a color mode even if it required changing the previous television sets. The TV actors and directors of programming gradually became old and new people were coming in this industry. This eventually led to low quality programming and it was observed that TV commercials were coming in at a fast pace (Recent Technological Advancements in Television, 2012). Eventually, this lead to cable TV programming where people actually paid for cable TV to avoid the low quality programming running on the standard television. Satellite TV programming was invented after some decades of cable TV programming. During the cold war era, the first satellite of DirecTV and Dish Network commenced into orbit. This had a high level of quality programming. Without this technology of DirecTV and Dish Network, there would have been no concept of high definition programming in the present era. This is due to the lack of ability and technology for cable programming to provide high definition programming. Therefore the advancements in the television industry were greatly boosted by DirecTV and the Dish Network. Sports programming is being lead by DirecTV and the movies area is being lead by the Dish Network. These two giant TV programming industries have made history in the television industry along with many future unfolds remaining to be revealed (Recent Technological Advancements in Television, 2012). The invention of television has evolved itself from a black and white mode to a color mode with 42 inch plasma screens and sound. The invention of television involves many people and has a long timeline involved but the first person to think about creating something like television was a true innovator. The television history lies with Philo Farnsworth. Philo was an American engineer and thought about transmission of picture when he was only 14 years old. In 1927, he was the first person to invent and transmit an image on television. The image was transmitted on the television via a dissector tube ((Wyckoff, 2008) Furthermore, the invention of mechanical TV was invented in the year 1884 by Paul Nipkow. He developed a technology of rotating disc that allowed pictures to be transmitted over the wire. This was the first ever scanning system in the areas of electromechanical TV arena and it was not successful due to further inventions occurring that were better than this technology (Webb, 2005). Additionally, Chares Jenkins in the year 1932 stated that he has invented ways that would allow the transmission of silhouette images. Karl Braun in the year 1897 invented the cathode ray tube which is used in televisions in the present era as well. The invention of television can be categorized as a combined invention of many great minds. The invention of color television took place in the early 1900s. Color television attained a German patent in the year 1904. In the year 1925, a patent was filed by Zworykin for the electronic color television. In 1948, Louis Parker was given a patent on the invention of changeable television and in the late 1940s the cable television came into operation in Pennsylvania. The invention of remote control was the invention of Zenith Radio Corporation and this was known as ‘Lazy Bones’ (Invention Help - History of Invention of Television, 2010). The idea of television invention is actually older than the television history. In 1876, a civil servant in Boston by the name George Carey had thoughts about the invention of television systems. In the year 1877, George made drawings of selenium camera. These drawings allowed the people to “see by electricity”. On the other hand, there were other people that were also working on this notion and experimenting different ideas that would eventually lead to television being invented. There are some people who think that the core reason for the invention of television was to be something like a videophone that we know of today (History of Television, 2005). The invention of television impacted the later time periods in a very dynamic mode. Information flow to masses became easier with the advent of television. Live shows on television allowed the question and answer session to take pace effectively and queries were answered on the spot. Happenings around the world started to be known to the public on an immediate basis as news channels are numerous in number and they are constantly on the hook of delivering latest news available worldwide. People have become more aware about the happenings in the world than they were ever before. Accordingly, the live performing sector of arts area was impacted tremendously with the advent of TV. The general public had the opportunity of becoming aware of the various types of arts and the intricacies involved in the field of arts. The amount of creativity that is required in arts became known to the viewers via the different documentaries on television. Furthermore, the new technologies in communications have the potential for providing outlets for the purpose of public service scholarships. New technologies also have the potential to act as a resource for cultural conversations to take place. Across the country, in high schools, students have the access to satellite television for studying various courses such as studying Russian literature, women’s history in America, human values, technology and other such courses. Prior this was only available in large districts. Professors of renowned universities, from their own campus, can deliver lectures to college students that are spread across the country (Marc, 1995). Also, through satellite television, the public libraries has the opportunity to offer new types of programs that answers questions of the present era and also cater towards answering queries of adult audiences. Students and instructors have the opportunity to have live conversations with each other. On behalf of humanities, the use of television technology has allowed information flow to be easier and to be able to reach mass audiences (National Task Force on Scholarship and the Public Humanities, 1990).
