From this point, I would say I am superstitious about several things, especially those that have to do with the Christian religion. For example, I believe that people die because of the sinful nature of humankind: as the bible says that the wages of sin are death. This is contrary to science, which gives reasons like old age and diseases as the natural cause of death. I also believe that the universe was architecturally structured and created (by God) though science says that the universe came about through evolution. I also believe that the world will come to an end and all people will be judged through science denies this.

COMMENT 1

The argument on the existence of God is very dicey. This is perhaps because of the divergent debate around the existence of God. But the personality of God, just like science is not conclusive and convincing. This is because, in the case of science, not every phenomenon of the universe has been proven by science. This is why we have metaphysics. The personality of God is also too abstract to believe. But drawing a line, it would be said that both instances exist as science has never convinced the world of the genesis of the universe. Though science talks about evolution, the question will continue to be “Who created that first particle that started expanding, and why has the human race not changed to something else if we evolved from apes? Why have apes not also turned into humans after a long time? So there is an unseen part of the existence of the world and that is God.

COMMENT 2

Indeed, to belong to a religion is a good action to take. This is because all religions have a very high level of preaching and teaching that highlights good and harmonious living. If indeed all persons were to stay by the core principles of religion, the world would likely be a peaceful place to live. But more importantly, the time should come when the debate will not be about whose religion is the best but whose conduct is the best.

COMMENT 3

Science and pseudoscience are also differentiated from each other based on the common grounds of empirical evidence. This notwithstanding, it is interesting to note that several concepts have been regarded as pseudoscience that continues to work perfectly for some people (Skeptic’s Dictionary, 2012). Having personally undertaken the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and having the results depict my exact personality, I am tempted to believe in it though it is generally regarded as pseudoscience.

COMMENT 4

Indeed, science and other concepts like religion may be different from a point of ‘cause of belief’. By cause of belief, reference is being made to the fact that science comes to believe anything only through experimental proof. Meanwhile, religion and other forms of spiritual practices come to believe based on faith. In Christian religion, for example, the belief for a person to be healed is related to prayer whiles in science, the belief for a person to be healed is related to medicine.

COMMENT 5

The media has a lot of influence on the promotion of different phenomena of life including pseudoscience. With the advent of media, it is now possible to propagate one’s faith and beliefs. It is also possible to debate and critically analyze the factuality behind some of these theories. It is not surprising therefore that most people who hitherto did not believe in some of these pseudoscience theories are now lured into it.
