For example, I said that it is a wireless electronic device, which means that it has to do something with the battery. The dictionary’s definition says that it is a cordless telephone, which also means that it is operated using a battery.MarriageMe: Marriage is a legal agreement between a man and a woman about living together.Merriam-Webster: “the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law”Comparison: Both definitions are same because both refer to the contract-based union of people from two opposite sexes.
BlogMe: A blog is a web-based document that contains information about some topic.Merriam-Webster: “a Web site that contains an online personal journal with reflections, comments, and often hyperlinks provided by the writer; also : the contents of such a site”Comparison: Both definitions refer to online presence of such documents that contain some sort of information. The dictionary’s definitions writes a few words more e.g. addition of comment and hyperlinks. However, the basic concept is same.
UnionMe: Union refers to the concept of working or joining together to achieve common goals.Merriam-Webster: “something formed by a combining or coalition of parts or members”Comparison: The definitions are same as the concept of joining is present ion both definitions. However, the dictionary’s definition gives more details because union is a multi-faceted term. The dictionary adds a few examples too related to different aspects of union.Exercise 12.3Union Formation of unions has been a common way to achieve common goals and objectives.
Unions provide many considerable benefits to the members. Some of those benefits include achievement of goals, platform for raising voice, better working conditions, and better salary packages. There are different types of unions that serve their respective members. Some common examples of unions include labor unions, trade unions, and political unions. Labor unions are usually formed for getting better salary packages and labor rights. Trade unions are formed for getting better working conditions.
