 Individual Reflective Report – Presentation on “The Treatment and Evaluation of elderly Patients’ care in Accident &Emergency Department” Reflective Report Introduction The essay aims to reflect the experience of working in group for the preparation of the presentation on the topic of “The Treatment and Evaluation of elderly Patients’ care in Accident &Emergency Department” that has evolved as an important area of concern within the present healthcare provision landscape (Chalice, 2007, p 54). The task was accomplished by our group of three people and all of us distributed the work for proper management and organization of job. The final presentation comprises of total 20 slides including the title, references and end note. The presentation is prepared using combination of text and visuals and information presented in the presentation is research based for which the reference list has been provided at the end. The preparation of the presentation was an interesting experience for all of the group members. During the preparation there came certain point where we face problems in communication and coordination but fortunately we succeeded to resolve all the issues easily and eventually we became able to attain our goal by presenting our work in front of the class on the due date and the soft copy was also submitted within the due date. The presentation was done very well. We all were very much satisfied with the work quality. After the initial submission the teacher gave us feedback and we amended the presentation on the basis of the feedback and then submitted the final version. My Personal Contributions – What Worked and What Didn’t Before initiating the task, we help a meeting where all of the three group members did brain storming and finally we decide the main features of out presentation. We decided the main aspects of the topic to be covered and then distribute the work among us keeping in view the convenience and expertise of everyone. I decided to do the presentation part as the group members suggest that I would be able to deliver the presentation is better way. The other two group members distributed the information collection, writing, editing and proofreading task. I was also with them throughout the literature search and analysis however, the final writing has been done by one group member and the other group member took the text from him and arranged that with the visuals in the slides. All the group members had some personal issues that tend to have effect on our group work and activities also. We all have different types of social settings like out lifestyles are different and our daily routines also have some major differences. One of the group members is a family man so he has to give adequate time to his family also and hence, he clarified that he would not be available for late night sittings very often. The other group member and I have very tough day time routines due to our studies and jobs so we also find it difficult to get time other than the classes. However, we worked out the issue and decided to conduct long hour meetings at weekends. We remain in touch with each other via email and cell phones to make sure that the work progress in desired manner. Overall the experience remain good because most of the times things worked for us. We successfully managed our meetings and remained in touch with each other throughout the preparation phase. Few times things didn’t worked when we decided to meet at certain time and place but due to some personal issues, a group member informed at the last minute that he would not be able to join us and eventually we have to postpone that meeting. So it was the time issue that creates little problems for us but most of the times we worked out to overcome the problems and did really well with each other. Group Efforts for Presentation The experience of working in group for making presentations and other project was nothing new for me or any of the other group members, since we have been doing many assignments, presentations and projects in group form right from the beginning of our degree course. However, what made this experience different and new for us was the proper and adequate coordination and work organization that we often fail to achieve in earlier tasks. The arrangement of the text and visuals in final presentation form was an important task. It was done by the group member who accepted that task but when we meet at the weekend we spend time in suggesting him different changes within the work and after the coordination and agreements of all the members, the work finally got a finished form presentable to the class and teacher. Evidences and Academic Arguments used for Personal Part When the work was distributed among the members, it was decided that I would be responsible for the representation of our work. It means that I have to prepare myself to conduct the final event. For this purpose, I remain keep in touch with the group members to have clear understanding of the issue however, I was also concerned about proper delivery of the presentation for which I read different books and articles to get literature support for my part of the work and also get some useful tips for the presentation. For instance, Rizvi (2005, p, 209) has identified some points for successful delivery of presentation including rehearse before a live audience, timing during rehearsal and recreating the presentation environment. I follow these tips for improved delivery of the presentation and found that these tips are really helpful. Similarly, the presentation delivery tips given by Lee and Nelson (2003, p. 73) also make me feel more informed about the proper way of presentation. The importance of speaking with confidence in public is very well and extensively explained by Cohen (p. 149). H explains that presentations allow the students to stand out and to be confidence and the positive reaction of the audience towards the presentation also depends upon the confidence level of the person delivering the presentation. The importance of speaking with power and confidence is also explained by Collins (2009, p. 124) and this reading also allow me understanding and building confidence while speaking in front of the people. The rules of presentation given by Budinski (p. 13) also guide me a lot while preparing for the presentation. Budinski pointed out that the first rule of effective presentation delivery is to make an outline to clearly know what you are going to say. he explained another rule of effective presentation that you should use more facts and less words to make your communication effective. Another important rule he explains is to have a rusted person to review the rehearsal of the presentation. I followed these rules and finally I became able to deliver an effective presentation. The presentation tips given by Staneart (2010, p.15) also help me to prepare for the presentation as the book is a very useful resource to learn about ways of delivering a good presentation in front of the people. The Actual Event The actual event was to present the work in front of the class and the teacher. For this purpose we have already decided that all the verbal communication would be done by me whereas the other two group members will be there to provide me support and arrange the material during the presentation. A day before the presentation all of the group members meet at my home where I practiced the delivery of the presentation and the group members help me in identifying and removing the flaws. The actual day of presentation was very important for us. I deliver the opening note that we already wrote to deliver before starting the presentation. After the opening note, I introduced the topic of our presentation, its importance and the aspects of the issue that we have covered in the presentation. Then I proceed towards the slides and explain each slide one after one. I take help from the notes that we write for each slide. Some students and the teacher also asked some question related with the topic and in the light of literature studied around the topic, I answered the questions and finally the presentation came to an end getting good response from the classmates and positive comments from the teacher. The Lesson Learnt The main lesson I learnt from the presentation is the importance of time management, communication and coordination. I admit that we never be able to make and execute the presentation if we would not have proper communication link and coordination among us. Hence, it is all about management and coordination that makes a group work successful and in this case also, the things worked for us mainly because we focus on time and work management and build effective communication links to foster communication.
