Prof’s Letter Analysis It is interesting that the focus of the Oprah letter and of the CEO letter seem to differ greatly. Oprah’s letter focuses on the emotional pull of the issues that she is dealing with, and how they impact her – and uses language that matches that idea. Furthermore, the Oprah letter seems more about the effort of communicating – of trying to dissect what “Aunt Jemima” communicates to different people who see it, how to communicate that to children, and how to communicate those ideas to the producers of Quaker Oates.
The CEO letter, conversely, focuses more on logic – though it does pull in the emotional impact of the product (which is the purpose of the letter – it cannot be entirely divorced from it), it does not imagine empathy necessarily coming from the recipient – it seems to believe that it has to enter into a polemic in order to convince the recipient of anything. The main difference between the two letters thus seems to be the expectation of sympathy or empathy from the recipient.BrainstormingCroudsourcing versus professionals – can a group of amateurs really do a job as well as a small number of paid people?
