Extract of sample "Victims of the Environmental Problems"

A judge halted the project two days before startup citing an incomplete environmental study. An environmental assessment of the project can resolve the controversy between the Hawaii residents and the Supper Ferry Company. In presenting this solution, the paper will analyze the audience to convince them of what to do and how to do it.

My audience entails all Hawaii residents who reside in the islands of Oahu, Kauai, and Maui. Addressing this audience is very significant since they are the main beneficiaries of the project and possible victims of the environmental problems it may cause. They will economically benefit from cheap and quick transport across the shores and the environmental and economic effects associated with the project will influence their lives since they are immediately on the shores. As such, an environmental assessment of the project will suit them and call for their action.

Hawaii residents are lovers of the environment and their main economic activity is fishing. Indeed, Hawaii's air quality is the best in the nation.

They assume that the ferry will jeopardize their occupation. They also love their indigenous plants and animals. Hence, they fear that the emissions, effluents, and solid wastes from the ferry will kill their indigenous plants and animals. Nene, a large goose is Hawaii's state bird (Pacific Island Travel Web). They prefer less technology and enjoy a good life. Hence, they disregard the ferry. The Hawaii residents fear that the ferry will cause traffic at the port and severely affect the whales. Hawaii residents also venture into agriculture where they grow coffee beans, bananas, and macadamia nuts. The tourist business is Hawaii's largest source of outside income and hence they treat the islands with utmost care. They celebrate cultural events and canoe races. Traditional Hawaiian Islands residents have a diverse traditional culture and customs which they seek to maintain and celebrate. English and Hawaii are the most dominant languages in the Hawaii islands. Hawaii State Department of Transportation is responsible for all modes of transportation (Sublet Web).

In establishing a persuasive communication to this audience, I will need to consider these factors. I will call the audience to an informal forum aimed at addressing this noble issue and relevantly base my communication in English. I will start by drawing an immense recognition of their culture, cultural events, and competitions, and their indigenous plants and animals like the Nene. Additionally, I will applaud their love and respect for the environment as well as their economic activities based on the island and the shores. In shifting to the project, I will quote the responsibility of the Hawaii State Department of Transportation. Ideally, I will detail the operations of the proposed ferry, its significance, and the possible environmental hazards it will pose to the audience. I will also state the commitment of the Supper Ferry Company to conserve the environment at all costs. I will then, draw a balance between economic gains and environmental hazards.

While leaning on the more beneficial effects of the Supper Ferry, I will propose an assessment of the project’s useful life against a measure of the environmental damages that the company will cause. Upon a detailed assessment, I will denote the company’s assurance to compensate for the environmental hazards with the audience receiving the damages directly. In conclusion, I will note the responsibility of all in conserving the environment.
