Extract of sample "Why chose to illustrate the poem Prayers of Steel by Carl Sandburg"

The poem”Prayers of Steel” written by Carl Sandburg is the request of a man to God. To get him involved in the world in which he does not seems to be fitting in. He prays to The God to help him fit in the world which is rather new and strange to him. The poet considers himself as a part of the constantly changing new world and wants to be transformed into a person who is useful for the progress of the world. The poet wants to be transformed into a person who plays a major role in progress and maintaining the strength of the society.

“Drive me into the girders that holds a skyscraper together”There is a beautiful description of the industrial progress the world made at that time as well as a modest pray of a person to The God who wants to play its role in the progress. As we all know, God listens to the true prayers of a person. The angel shown is supposed to be sent by The God in response to the prayers of the poet. The angel transforms the thief into a religious person, showing the transformation the poet prayed for.

The thief, who is now a pious person can play it supposed role in the society. The thief and the angel are a signal from The God that He is sitting somewhere, watching and listening to the prayers of those who have a true heart and a selfless nature.”Prayers of Steel” by Carl Sandburg.
