Goddard is a dynamic character who changes as the story goes along. Immediately after the death of his wife, he becomes paranoid after sensing that Hannah suspects him of killing his wife. Hannah on the other hand is a static character who retains her nature of invincibility and control of the situation throughout the story. While Goddard is motivated by a need for survival and freedom in his actions, Hannah’s motivation for manipulating and controlling Goddard is motivated by a desire for control and money which she achieves by blackmail (Jacobs 42).

The entertainment by Ramsey Campbell is the story of a man who finds that he is supposed to entertain guests at a certain hotel yet he has no inkling of what he is supposed to do. The protagonist finds himself in the situation in which he is supposed to entertain without knowing how he got there in the first place. The antagonist on the other hand is full of expectations on the protagonist to perform as per the agreement. The protagonist is a static character since he alters his personality and acts according to the circumstances he finds himself in. The antagonist on the other hand is static in having the same expectation both at the beginning and at the end of the narrative.
