Application for Summer Salaried Placement Being an Architectural Technology at Birmingham has provided various opportunitiesfor personal and professional growth. One has acknowledged that to qualify for any employment position – whether part-time or full-time – would require knowledge, talent and abilities that would render an applicant competent and adept for the position applied for. To stand out among the rest, I strongly believe that it is not so much that academic grades would be the sole criteria for selection; but more importantly, the determination and persistence to acknowledge that there is more to learn and to contribute in a prestigious organization that matters most.
The Willmott Dixon Group has consistently been regarded as one of the Top 100 Best Companies to Work for in the UK, as recognized by Sunday Times (Willmott Dixon Group: Careers Overview n.d.). Established more than 160 years ago in 1852, Willmott Dixon boasts of having “employed 50 apprentices in 2010.. targetted 75 in 2011, and 100 by 2012” (Willmott Dixon Group, n.d.). In this regard, I would like to be part of the roster of privileged Birminghan City University students to be accepted for the three-month summer salaried placement at Willmott Dixon Construction.
The ultimate reason why I should be considered for the placement program is my genuine desire to be of service to the construction company, regeneration and support services company. Its mission of providing “the expertise to efficiently meet our customers’ needs, achieve high performance targets and, at the same time, preserve our environment through the delivery of sustainable services”(Willmott Dixon Group: Support Services, n.d., p. 1) is shared with commitment and recognition for social responsibility and environmental protection.
My nine years of extensive working experience in various capacities and roles manifest my conformity to giving importance to people as team members and accepting diversity as primost in significance. My communication and social skills enable me to adapt, adjust and respond to different working situations. My proficiency in different languages (English, Farsi, French, Pashto and Dari and Urdu) provides a plus factor in assisting understanding through verbal communication across diverse cultural backgrounds.
The work experiences have developed holistic skills in the areas of leadership, problem-solving, conflict negotiation and decision-making, among others. However, regardless of the personal and professional achievements, I humbly acknowledge that I still have a lot to learn – more so from a prestigious organization like Willmott. Even the managers at Willmott are constantly being developed through “management development programme and managers are also required to attend the Group Diversity and Cultural Awareness training” (Willmott Dixon Group: Diversity, n.d.).
The main purpose, therefore, of one’s earnest desire to be accepted as one of the fortunate students for the three-month summer salaried placement at Willmott is to be given the opportunity to be trained in an environment where my future career path leads. One believes that Willmott would provide the best chance to apply what I have learned at Birmingham and to be an instrumental contributor to the organization’s quest and pursuit for sustainable development and community growth. I hope that Birmingham would seriously consider my application for the three-month summer placement at Willmott Dixon to augment the theoretical background gained in the field of Architectural Technology and be accorded the chance to apply the knowledge, skills and abilities gained so far.
