She is afraid of Richard taking over the throne because her children are too young to rule. She knows Richard is hostile to her and means harm to her family.2. By saying that their happiness is at its height she means their days of happiness will soon be over if the king passes on and Richard becomes the protector. 3. Richard makes the statement to show that he is an honest man but everyone seems to speak ill of him because of his simplicity, deformity, and unpleasant looks. 4. Richard accuses Queen Elizabeth as being the one responsible for the imprisonment of Clarence.5. Richard says the statement to implicate Queen Elizabeth of engineering the imprisonment of his brother.

He does this to portray her in bad light among those present. 6. She tells Richard that she has had enough of his bitter scoffs and accusations and will inform the king of Richard’s gross taunts. 7. Queen Margaret tells us of Richard’s part in the murder of her husband, King Henry VI, and her son Prince Edward. 8. Between lines 215 and 232, Margaret curses Richard and asks the heaven to make Richard to never sleep peacefully and forever mistake his friends for enemies and enemies for friends.9. In lines 323 and 337, Richard admits that he is the one who commits the crimes he accuses other of committing by deceiving people that he is a good person.

This is why he brags that he can, “clothe my naked villainy / With odd old ends, stol’n forth of Holy Writ, / And seem a saint when most I play the devil” (I.iii.334–336). 10. The play demonstrates that Richard is an evil person. His speech displays a calculated hypocrisy which he uses to manipulate matters behind the scenes. These tactics are similar to the way some politicians manipulate the electorate in achieving their personal interests. Act 1 Scene 41. Clarence dreams he is sailing to France together with his brother Richard who stumbles on the deck of the ship but when Clarence tries to save him, Richard pushes Clarence into the ocean.

As he is drowning he sees treasures buried in the sea and the ghost of Prince in the underworld who tries to drag him to hell. 2. The murderers experience personal conflicts with their consciences and the prospect of killing the brother of the person who hired them. The reward promised to them by Richard however makes them get through the conflict and proceed with their task.3. Clarence persuades them with a promise that his brother Richard will reward them if they spare his life. 4. Just before he dies Clarence is shocked by the revelation that his own brother Richard sent the murderers to kill him.
