A Critical Analysis on The Interrupters The review on the movie The Interrupters was a great piece of article as it tells the story of the movie and the basic importance of the existence of the organization CeaseFire in Chicago. The problem being dealt with by CeaseFire does not only exist in Chicago but in all states of America and even in other countries around the world as well. The work of the organization is as fantastic as it depicts the roles of superheroes that are only seen on movies and television shows.
The works of the members are really tough as they may come into contact with actual fights and dangers and even put their lives at stake. Despite of the hardships, they still push through the objectives and the vision of their organization. The focus of the paper would be on the reasoning rendered by the review about The Interrupters. The main argument is related to the quality of the review and the supporting details would be used to verify the strength of the argument presented. Later on a conclusion would be made to prove that the supporting details really strengthened the argument.
Roger Eberts said that “The Interrupters" is the closest thing to a real-life superhero origins story that any of us might ever experience. This film is exactly that: a superhero origins documentary. It might be the most powerful movie I have ever seen.” He wanted to convince the audience that the documentary movie was the greatest film ever as it reflected the heroic acts that can be compared to heroic deeds that are seen only on fantasies. Eberts concluded that people in the movie “identifies a problem, and seeks to fix it, with, or without any fanfare.
The characters in our story are nothing more or less than what they are: humans with delicate hearts, seeking a few rays of hope.” The Interrupters is a good piece of a film as its quality is great catching the scenes that proves the existence and real impacts of the works of the organization CeaseFire. Their group may have some vigilante factor but the strength of their motivation adds help to the peace maintenance in their place. The movie The Interrupters shows the story about real-life superheroes as the characters in the movie are real people and not actors (Ebert Paragraph 1).
They are captured while doing the real thing. Just like superheroes they face adversities even if danger is present and they risk their lives to save people. Dozens of Chicago killings rise and children are the usual victims. They are ignored and majority of people are busy on other events such as football games (Ebert Paragraph 2). It is true that many people pay attention on what they want and usually on fun; a group like CeaseFire exists to increase the awareness regarding the violence especially on youth.
The statement above may weaken the argument as the violence is prevalent, but it can also be a strong point because a unique group does a unique approach to take care of the existing community problem. The unique approach of Ceasefire showed how sophisticated they are as they went beyond banners in making their concern materialize (Ebert Paragraph 3). They walk their talk as their leader Dr. Gary Slurkin is an infectious disease specialist, he and the rest of CeaseFire believe that violence is like an infectious disease like HIV that spreads and can be isolated and controlled and treated.
Their method is to be straightforward as they try to change the behavior of an existing anger that may lead to violence like riot and physical infliction of pain to others. The members of CeaseFire empathize with people. The approach was caught many times in action as it strengthens the argument of the movie having a great quality. A good imagery with their unique approach is to fight fire with water, not fire with fire (Ebert Paragraph 6). Tradition dictates that fight pressure with pressure but it is not always the solution.
The credibility may weaken as the members of the CeaseFire who were doing their jobs as they were being filmed were former criminals. They are already tainted with their errors of the past that may affect their credibility as to what they are fighting for right now. Another weak portion is the claim that empathy can solve the problem as sometimes a member of CeaseFire will not be able to stop the violence and might get caught up and hurt himself in the process. Sometimes handling emotions is not enough to solve the problem and it may weaken the argument.
Despite of minor setbacks, overall the critic offers valid arguments that the movie is great in showing how former bad people can become heroes in their community.Works Cited:Ebert, Roger. “Extinguishing the Ecstasy of Anger.” Sun Times. 10 Nov. 2011. 18 Nov. 2011 .
