The aesthetic effect of the focus and lighting techniques is that it casts story aspects as a sort of memory that is remembered or relayed in reverse. One such instance this technique is implemented is the scene where Miss Daisy is informed that no car company will insure her. In this instance, the lighting and screen focus take on this impressionistic quality that cast the incident in an aura of recollection rather than hard fact. In addition to the lighting and focus aspects, the film makes great use of overall mise-en-scene. One of the primary aspects of the film is its meticulous compositional elements. While it’s difficult to articulate the lush scenery and staging that occurs in the film, one can rightly compare it to a 19th-century portrait or landscape painting in its vibrant colors and strong ability to create an emotional response in the viewer. Through aspects of juxtaposition and music, the film makes expert use of these techniques to power aesthetic effect.
