4 October The USA Health Center The system of health care has been running very effectively in the campus of USA of South Alabama). The system has been running very smoothly and has done wonders for the student community especially with regard to the maintenance of the health of the student in the campus of the university. The University runs a very established mechanism of health care which has a very few drawbacks with respect to its functioning, which shall be discussed in the paper.   Extracting from the passage above it is pertinent that the heath care system is very well managed and has been catering well to the needs of the students. The institution has been well equipped with the staff for maintaining the health care needs of the students in the college. The staff has been specifically trained and organized to manage the health of the students. There is enough medication for the students in the college and this leads to a better way of running the campus since there is not much time wasted on treating the students. Negative Drawbacks One of the major drawbacks of the health care systems is that it has a paying fees for the service provided, which comes at a cost to the students who expect subsidised costs and cheap services, which is something missing from this system. The health care system also does not have enough space to cater to a large number of people at the same time, and this may prove to be futile if there arises a need to cater to a large number of students. Since all the students are eligible for treatments it basically depends on who can afford the treatment and who cannot. To meet the requirement of each and every student the college has made sure that the treatment comes cheap and not too expensive so that the people don’t have to think twice before going for the health care system. The health care center also offers health insurance for the students at a very nominal charge. This is done to facilitate health consciousness and awareness among the students of the college and to allow them to retain benefit from the college at the cheapest prices. The idea is to make sure that if anything happens to the students then the health insurance will cover the greatest of the greatest costs of the students and that shall also help him to undergo his treatment at low prices. Whenever a student visits the college a confidential health record is maintained by the college health center. This is done to maintain the privacy of the student and also in the best interest of medical ethics. Patient Rights: There are certain rights which the patient has and these shall be understood in detail. The first and the foremost right the patient has is the right to be given quality treatment irrespective of the background of the patient. The patient has the right to be treated with respect and dignity, as well as asking for a specific doctor if he is comfortable with the treatment of such doctor. The patient also has the right to privacy over the treatment as well as confidentiality. The health center under no circumstances shall divulge the details of the treatment of the patient to any other third party whatsoever. The patient has the right to refuse participation in any research programme if and when asked by the health center. The patient has the right of exclusivity over the matter concerning him and there shall be no distribution of the information regarding the health of the patient to anyone concerned in the campus. On the other hand, there are certain responsibilities which the patient has to fulfill to get the best treatment available at the health center. The patient has to divulge all the details regarding his sickness to the health center, along with the information as to how long he has been suffering and the kind of treatment he wants. The center leaves it to the patient to decide what kind of treatment he wants and only goes ahead with it once the patient affirms the same to the health center. Services Provided: There are many services which are offered at the health center for the betterment of the students in the college. The following are the services studied in detail are as under: Clinic: A clinic is there which offers unlimited check up services to the students at very nominal fees. Following is the description taken from the official website: “the student health center is staffed with fully licensed professional health care providers whose specialty is taking care of the college age population. We also believe that there is more to creating a healthy campus than just taking care of sick students.” Lab: There is a laboratory as well in the health center where research is performed for the most basic medicines belonging for the usage of the students. It performs in house tests for the students and also diagnosis the treatment at the same time. Pharmacy: There is an existing pharmacy in the health center as well which deals with the sale and purchase of medicines as prescribed by the doctors in the clinic. This place lets students go and buy stuff for their own usage. X-Ray Services: There are X-Ray services which are there in the health center as well. Immunization: The center also provides for the immunization of the students against the most common and deadly diseases which are pertaining at that time. \ Women Health Service: Apart from the above services, the center also provides for the health services of women. Conclusion: All in all the university health care programme has been able to run an effective mechanism of health check up and care which has been catering to the entire segment of the population. There is no denying of the fact that there could be some poisitive changesi n the making, but overall the structure has been incredible and has done a good job of managing the health of the students and looking after them if any need arises.
