High school is a time in which teenagers define themselves socially in an educational environment that helps them mature as human beings. The experiences we encounter during high school helped define ourselves. Young girls can take advantage of the high school to learn valuable life skills such as learning to cook and how to behave as ladies. It was always fun sharing stories with my female classmates. We would talk about our future looking forward to a day in which life would become more meaningful. Many of us believed that motherhood was going to be that stepping stone that was going to transform our lives. During those times we had very little worries. Sometimes we thought school work was hard, but we learned in the future that it only gets more challenging during and after the college years. I remember that college was a hot topic of discussion in the last year of high school. We supported each other a lot and the advice of our friends provided great input to help us decide what to study and at which university. Throughout the years our friendship and comradery has not changed. We still care a lot about each other. Social friendship sites such as Facebook have helped a lot of us keep in touch. I like going to our high school page on Facebook to see old pictures of when we were back in high school. I phone call a lot of old high school classmates at least once a month. High school helps built lasting relationships. Over the years we have had many mini-reunions and get together. High school reunions help people renew old friendships (Lamb & Reeder). Some of our reunions have been very successful, but in others attendance has been low. Even those that don’t attend always get a taste of what occurred in the event since it is customary for us to send everyone several videos and photos of the event’s activities. There is a log with the emails of all the members of the 1987 graduation class. All classmates are notified of special events such as reunions. During the last 25 years the class has held at least one activity every three years. On some years we have had more than one activity. Another medium that was introduced about three years ago was a forum created by one of the classmates who specializes in programming and designing websites. The forum is a great way for us to talk and leave messages for all of us to share. We never forget of any of our friends. Some of the members never attend the activities of the class of 1987 and some are not users of Facebook. We never forget about any of the girls. In the forum we all reminisce over the past. We like to share funny stories about things that happen to us or any of our classmates while in high school. A graduating committee was created about 10 years ago. The committee is supposed to keep a database of information on former classmates. Major events such as weddings, birthdates, and new born babies are news that is shared among all the classmates through the use of emails. The class of 1987 was very special. Some of the greatest professional accomplishments among the classmates include doctors, lawyers, teachers, managers and entrepreneurs. Along with professional success we found out as we grew up that becoming mothers was a great thing. We often share with each other tales about the adventures of our children. I often think about the great times I experienced in high school. I loved lunch time. We would get together in the cafeteria and share our meals. We often brought treats from our homes which would share with each other. The cafeteria was pretty good at our school. We all had a special teacher. My favorite teacher was a 10th grade math teacher that always encouraged me to provide my best effort in all aspects of life. We often rely on each other for advice. When I need financial advice help I called up one of ex-classmate who is an accountant. I often do business with her for tax filing services. Instead of paying in cash we have a barter system of favors. For instance last year for the tax return I had to help out during a weekend doing some filing at her office. It was nice those days working with her since we did more talking and joking around than any actual filing at all. It was fun to get a chance to spend extra time with a lifetime friend. When we grow up and become adults we sometimes forget the times in which paying bills, family responsibilities, and the daily work routine we not a part of our lives. The wonder years of high school should never be forgotten. It was a time when we had great hopes and aspiration for our future. The bonds and friendships build during this time are sacred. Personally I have had the chance to keep friendships with a lot of my high school classmates. The friendships I have harness over the years with some of my classmates feels as if they were a part of my family. We have been friends for our entire adult life. It seems that they have been involved in my adult life more than my extended family. The class of 1987 is a very special group of women. As young teenagers we learned a lot about ourselves by sharing bonding experiences during high school. It is incredible that 25 years have passed since our graduation because I still have vivid memories in my mind of our high school years. Back in high school I did not realize how much those experiences were going to impact my life in the future. We should embrace our past since those high school years had a tremendous impact in our development and maturing process. I hope that as we move forward into the future the class of 1987 will continue to be united so that we can enjoy each others company as we enter a new phase in our lives when many of us will soon become grandmothers.
