Your full July 23, Essay1 Bringing change in the identity so as to embrace new languages and dialects in order to excel is always encouraged. The two things that I like are Shen’s struggle to maintain a balance between the old and new identity, and Melix’s love for the dialect she had received from her family.Shen was using many Chinese words when she started writing in English, and after her professor pointed her out like by saying, “Why did you always use ‘we’ instead of ‘I’?”, she found it hard to maintain her Chinese identity.
Melix had to struggle hard to choose an English dialect but finally had to accept the fact that learning Standard English was the only way out. She did not have to undergo a change in identity but had to accept the other dialect only. Whatever the perplexity, I believe that both should struggle hard to learn effective English composition without giving consideration to what disturbs them if they wanted to keep at pace with the modern world.Essay2 The key to success for Shen and Melix was adoption of the new identity.
Shen and Melix adopted new identities in struggle for learning English. Shen discovered herself by the use of ‘I’ instead of ‘we’, and Melix discovered the world of others through learning another dialect. I suppose that learning Standard English has been beneficial to both of them in different perspectives. Change of identities was fruitful since they learned how to write high level compositions. For everyone, it is important to come out of their personal and cultural spheres and open up their minds to absorb new identities to be able to learn about new cultures and new languages.
