Prospection: nursing is my future. In this essay I am going to clarify the reasons why I have chosen this profession. Nursing is a hard job, but as for me a very rewarding one . It demands from a person lots of grit, determination, a quest for knowledge, compassion, caring and common sense. I have worked hard to to make a decision concerning my occupation. I had explored lots of options and finally understood that the most suitable job for me is one which deals with people. Having read the history of nurse anaesthesia practice, I realized the utility of this profession.

Nurses were the first professional group to provide anesthesia services in the United States. Established at the end of 19th century, nurse anesthesia has since become known as the first clinical nursing specialty. The discipline of nurse anesthesia developed because of rising demands of surgeons looking for a solution to the high mortality and morbidity connected with anesthesia at that time. Surgeons needed to hire new specialists, who could take special care of patient during surgical procedures.

Serving as pioneers in anesthesia, nurse anesthetists started dealing with the full range of specialty surgical procedures, as well as in the improvement of anesthesia techniques and equipment. During the World War I and World War II the demand for well-qualified nurse anaesthetics with proper education. During the Wars they struggled with death, saving numerous lifes. Working in field conditions, often without any rest, they nevertheless loved their job, seeing people they had saved. Nurse anesthetists were often appointed as directors of anesthesia services in both the public and private sectors.

Nowadays Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) and the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) play considerable roles in developing the practice of anesthesia. Today, more than 30,000 CRNAs provide cost-effective, high-quality patient care that is adequate and suitable for America’s healthcare system. In the modern health care system not a single surgery can be carried out without an anesthesia; nurse anaesthetics’ work therefore is considered priceless. I am mother of three children and have faced many nurses including nurse anaesthetics; most of them were self-giving, helpful and understanding.

In addition, as it has already been mentioned, nursing obviously includes helping people, giving back to the community, and saving a life. I think it is pleasant to see the recovery of those whom I have saved, to help people convalesce and to make some positive changes n their lives. Having become a nurse, I will see my personal achievements and results of my work – day by day. Thus, I have great aspirations that I will receive the highest quality of education and professional growth during next few years; I am looking forward to being a nurse.

I understand that it is possible to improve the health situation in my native state by informing people on the most spread ailments and taking care of those who are seriously ill. T There are few other career choices that allow one to have such an influence on a person’s life. While other health care workers have limited contact with patients, nurses are always nearby and ready to provide medical care . I aI also realize all the difficulties of such work, as one has to find a key to each patient’s heart, but I’m sure I have enough patience, compassion and communicability to choose this occupation.

Nurse anaesthetic’s work deserts respect; and the reward for me will be the fact that I help people to solve their health problems and to raise the quality of their lives. I’d like to leave close with a marvelous quote by Mother Teresa: “I know God wouldn’t give me anything I can’t handle, I just wish he didn’t  trust me so much.”1   Sources 1) http://www.aana.com/crna/ataglance.asp 2) http://www.aana.com/crna/history.asp 3) http://www.ccakids.com/kgACritchlaw.asp 4) http://stats.bls.gov/oco/ocos083.htm 5) http://www.
