College How to become a person internationally Introduction An international person is a person who is aware and understands the existence of different and various cultures. Furthermore, he/she should be a person who has pride in his/her own cultural heritage, and at the same time give respect to cultural backgrounds of others people. The understanding of other peoples’ culture and values needs a certain composure and strength with cultural background of other people. Moreover, this can be firmly nourished by establishing a spiritual world that one can fall back on and rely on. In legal perspective, an international person is an individual with a legal personality in terms of international law. The idea of an international person is derived from international law. In other words, it is a person who is subject to international law. Furthermore, an international person has powers established in international law; they enjoy the rights, duties and powers established in international law. They also have the ability to act on the international plane (definitions.uslegal.com/i/international-person). This is clearly illustrated in the Kiobel v, Royal Dutch Petroleum Co. 2010 as the court described an international person as a person subjected to the international law. A person internationally should be understanding, patience, and accommodative to all the cultures and interests of people (Boas, 155). Other sources imply that to become a person international is more about applying cross-continental wisdom and kindness. It involves the ability to apply basic human goodness on a boarder spectrum, all around the world. Moreover, someone who has travelled to a lot of places has an outlook, which is not limited by national boundaries, is tolerant and accepting all cultures and is adaptable, to an extent, to many cultural surroundings. Others say one can become a person internationally, by being a person of the people by either being an activist or a leader (roots-int.com/S-T/14/nora-e.html>.) Being an activist of human rights, disabled people or other issues that are sensitive in the world of today. Some of the people who have become person internationally include; Political leaders, some sportsmen and women, some celebrities, human right laws among other professions. The biggest role models internationally include; President Obama, Nelson Mandela, Oprah Winfrey, Micheal Jackson to name just a few. The fact that these people relate to people from all walks of life make them people who are known internationally. Being an international person is beneficial as the idea of internationalizing the world because of unification. Internationalizing promotes world peace, it makes one understand the language, religion and culture of other people thus resulting to a unified group of people (roots-int.com/S-T/14/nora-e.html>). . Ways to become an international person. They are many ways to become an international person; one can be an international student, an international business person, and international programs. Here is a case study of Martin who has become an international person through being a student. Martin joined J.F Oberlin as an exchange student he was interested in Japanese traditional things and culture, he had heard about how great Japan is and this made him curious to know about Japanese culture. Martin’s homeland is Slovakia where he studied Marketing in University of Silesia, he joined Japan as he thought of it as an exotic country and he expected so much difference with Asian countries. For martin, going for studies in Japan would make him an international person as he saw it as a good environment for studying as he would learn different languages. Being an international person by studying out of the home country has many advantages compared to studying in home universities. First, as an international student Martin is bale to learn about other countries’ culture as well as Japan. At J.F Oberlin martin is able to meet people from other countries like China, Korea, America as well as United Kingdom. Just as Martin, I being in a country other than my homeland China am able to learn and interact with different people from different culture and peoples. According to Martin’s experience as an international student in Japan the program was very conducive as he was able to engage in various activities that helped better his life. The study program was a big different between the study program in Japan compared to Slovakia the system is supportive to students as it helped them find jobs after graduating. Being an international student helped martin to become an international person as he was able to make international friends, and enjoy Japanese life. I am also glad as a being an international student has made me have many friend and experience different culture thus makes me an international person. It is a good experience and it makes me very flexible life (elpweb.com/onjapan/an-international-person-martin). Secondly, one can become an international person through the different programs introduced by the government and other institution. For instance; in China they is a program of being an ambassador through people to people ambassador program. Being an ambassador with this program people to people gives a one the advantage of experiencing different places and peoples. An advantage of being an Ambassador with People to People is the ability to experience places and people other tourists would not be able to experience. Hosts will not treat you as just another tour group passing through. People to People is respected around the world as an organization offering professional exchange of ideas and culture. Access to top government and scientific leaders is not unusual for a delegation. Also, places off-limits to foreigners may be visited and studied when travelling under the banner of People to People. Especially important is the ability to interact one-on-one with people who are eager to share their knowledge and culture. The people to people program coordinates delegations of professional expertise such as; Agriculture Social sciences, Education, Business, Health and medical, Law, Science and technology Arts and humanities Majority of these delegations consists of around 12 to 30 members who come from either public or private institutions, industry or self employed. During this program participants become international people as they have a good environment to develop strong friendships among themselves and their hosts. This is done through sharing knowledge and professional experiences. On of the most important component of this program is giving participants the chance to an understanding the culture and history of area visited. Participant of the people to people program gives better understanding of agriculture foundation of China among others. Participants are able to visit places such as; The Great Wall, Tiananmen, Forbidden City, Terra-Cotta Stone Forest, Warriors museum, and other sites for a historical perspective. The last most recent program based visits to three areas namely; Beijing, Kunming and Xi’an, this covered over 1,200 miles from north to south (Journal of Extension, 2006). This program of people to people was introduced to enable a better international understanding, President Eisenhower believed that ordinary citizens of different nations would solve their differences and come up with a way to live in peace. Since 1956, the People to People organization has kept on President Eisenhower's vision. Furthermore, this same model is adopted as Extension educators associate one-on-one with their local clientele (Journal of Extension, 6). Taking this caring attitude to a foreign country is a natural transition for Extension educators as they can become ambassadors of their country’s good will. Participants of this program become international persons as, their travelling around enables them interact with professional counterparts at the agricultural universities as well as individual farmer. Thereby, they are able to share knowledge on agriculture by allowing participants to visit their research sites. Another way that one can become a person internationally is through involving in international jobs like becoming an international business consultant. International business consultants engage in giving guidance for corporations especially those entering new markets. It involves use of expertise to research local areas and provide advice to companies on modifications to consider in different stages of the business if necessary (Langford, 2012). Furthermore, international business consultants sometime navigate regulatory challenges and are required to handle government affairs for their clients. With these duties it’s recommended that for one to work effectively as an international business consultant. Some of the steps to become an person internationally through this profession involves; Doing international business makes one become a person internationally. When doing international business it is important to understand other peoples’ culture in order to be successful in the business. Therefore, it gives qualities of how a person should be internationally. I belief being a person internationally entails a variety of qualities, characters and handwork. Just as Martin, my experience as a student in a foreign country has been a wonderful experience. I am able to learn and interact with different people from different walks of life who have different cultures and are of different religious Being an international person has its advantages; it gives one the ability to experience different places and also interact with people from all walks of life. Moreover, interacting one on one with different people from different cultures enhances ones confidence and self esteem, it also gives one the eagerness to share their knowledge and culture to other people. For instance; I am always eager to share the knowledge and culture of Chinese people. Meeting people who are not from my culture is very interesting as I always want to tell them about how we do things back in China. Moreover, being from China gave me an opportunity to teach other people about our culture which cannot be understood from screens and documented materials. Furthermore, being a an international student gives Martin and other students like him the a great exposure to different activities that are beneficial to better growth in terms of both personal and career wise. In my own opinion, to become a person internationally one has to be aware, sensitive and gracious towards different cultures. The word international basically means the concept of being, an immensely open-minded essentially, globe-trotting chameleon thus I took this in order to understand what an international person is all about. In addition, a person needs to be knowledgeable of said differences, having experienced them firsthand. An individual who does not impose hi/hers way on everything but rather blends in when in a new and different environment can be considered an international person. Furthermore, on other level to be a person internationally, I think entails a lot of travel to many places. Furthermore, what teaches us our culture is our mothers and fathers together with the history of our ancestors and the land that we are brought. Being a person internationally is not about how much I know but it is about improvisational kindness, intuitive and ability to adapt the willingness to understand. From the above observations one can choose to become a person internationally through several ways; By being an international student By travelling a lot to different places By engaging in international businesses thus becoming an international business person \ By taking an international profession like international business consultancy By joining international exchange programs By joining politics All this gives one the exposure needed to be able to learn and experience different environments. It further leads to interactions with people from all walks of life and culture therefore, giving the participants a feel of being an international person. The demand of being an international person is highly rising and this has made so many organizations to come up with programs and activities that help their members to have the qualities required to become an international person. This different program and activities from charity work, environmental conservancy issues and academic activities has brought about good characters in the world today. Furthermore, to get to the top in the economic, political and social world today one has to be an all rounded person in terms of relating to different people. This is also encourages as an all rounded person will ensures no discrimination in all sectors. In conclusion, not everyone can become an international person as not everyone has the patience, ability to learn understand and integrate other cultures, For this reason even if I travel all over the world meeting different people if am not able to be patient with others and be willing to learn and adopt to their different culture I cannot be able to become a person internationally. In order to achieve being an international person, I will need to be selfless person. Giving up my interests and focusing mainly on other peoples’ interest in most aspects will make me be identified as a international person (Journal of Extension, 8). Added to my list of things to do to become a person internationally entails doing a lot of international travels to differ destination and take time to interact with the different people I will meet in those places. It is my desire to ensure peace prevails in the world and I know being an international person and influencing my friends and family to starve to be will encourage this as internationalizing promotes world peace. This entirely happens because of the understanding of the language, religion and culture of other people thus resulting to a unified group of people. Becoming an international person is not an easy task in needs a lot of effort, patience and understanding. Reference "Become an International Ambassador with People to People."
