?Comparison between Xbox One and PlayStation 4 INTRODUCTION The existence of video game amid the people can be viewed from the past. Video games havebeen one of the prominent sources that have offered children and young with an ability to cherish their life. It is believed that video game was among those aspects that provide ample amount of entertainment and was regarded as essential elements in every individual’s life. However, with the advent of technology in one way of conducting business, many aspects has been developed which provided the facility of mobility along with entertainment devices such as iPods, mobile phones and many others. Facing tough competitions from the rapid industrial challenges, it was vital that industry develop a new way of providing entertainment and also to maintain the tradition of playing video games. It has been viewed that today large companies like Microsoft and Sony are developing updated video games adapting new technological aspects and are also competing with one another to become the leader in the video game market. THESIS STATEMENT The paper aims to provide a detailed descriptive analysis, highlighting the major features of two video games consoles i.e. Xbox One and PS4 that would be launched soon for the public. DISCUSSION Xbox One. Xbox One is a forthcoming video game console that has been developed and manufactured by well-known multinational software company Microsoft. It is believed that the product would be released on November 22, 2013 across North America, some European countries, Australia and New Zealand and on 2014 in the rest of the world. Many critics regards this device as an all-in-one entertainment system and is predicted to provide tough competitions to Sony’s well known PlayStation series (Cunningham, “Xbox One launches in 13 countries on November 22”). PlayStation 4. PlayStation 4 is an imminent video game console developed and manufactured by Sony Computer Entertainment a subsidiary of the well-known multinational corporation Sony. It is considered as an eighth generation video game console which would directly compete with Microsoft Xbox One and other similar products available in the market. It is expected to launch in November 15, 2013 in North America and is scheduled to launch on November 29 in some of the major countries in the European region (O'Brien, “PlayStation 4 hitting shelves on November 15th in the US for $399, November 29th in Europe and Latin America”). COMPARISION With the rapid globalization and technological development, it is not only automobile and service sectors that are facing tough challenges from competitors but video game manufacturer like Sony and Microsoft are also facing tough challenges with the increase in competitors in the global market. In this aspect, it has also become tough for consumers to decide which product to choose from a range of available products in the market. Below is a comparison of the two most controversial video game console that would be launched very shortly. The two consoles Xbox and PS4 are considered similar in their hardware specification, especially when it comes to the control processing unit (CPU) and Graphics processing unit (GPU). Both the company uses Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. chip for their consoles, using system on chip (SoC) as a combination component for the CPU and GPU. The processor used in these consoles is an x86 64-bit chip with 8 'Jaguar' cores which provides an estimated clock speed of 1.65GHz. Although, PS4 and Xbox One has the same AMD Radeon GPU, however, the PS4 is much powerful with an 1152 cores compared to Xbox One. Additionally, it has been identified PS4 has a higher peak shader which is 1.84 TFLOPS in comparison to that of Xbox One which is 1.23 TFLOPS (Shimpi, “The Xbox One: Hardware Analysis & Comparison to PlayStation 4”). Again, it has been viewed that both the console has 8GB of RAM. However, in this aspect Xbox One has 32MB of eSRAM that can be used as a cache memory. It is worth mentioning that when it comes to storage both the system has 500GB hard drive and both uses Blu-ray/DVD drive as the standard driver. Concerning with the aspect of connectivity both the consoles offers Wi-Fi, Ethernet, optical out and USB. However, PS4 also offers Bluetooth system as an alternative connectivity option over Xbox One. As far as the features of these devices are concerned both the system tends to offer a number of additional and updated features in comparison to the earlier version of the console’s series. Additionally, Xbox One also provides the facility of lending games to friends who are present on their Xbox live list for at least 30 days. However, it is worth mentioning that a game once cannot be lent again. Considering the aspect of lending PS4 has no such restriction and provides the facility of enjoying a harassed free experience (Martin, “Xbox One vs. PS4 games console comparison review”). In terms of games, Xbox players seemed to be the winner when compared with that of PS4 players. The reason behind this is that, Xbox provides 13 exclusive titles for the featuring more fighting games. On the other hand PS4 gamers can only expect to dive deep into 12 launch title including the newly launched game i.e. Readyatdawn's: The Order (Sony Computer Entertainment, “PS4”). The users of both the consoles are provided with a second screen option. However, Microsoft probably might attract more customers in this segment because of its Smartglass app that provides the facility of playing the game on a range of mobile operating platforms. While PS4 users may need to install a PlayStation vita to enjoy the same experience. Considering the overall look of both the freshly developed consoles have newly designed controllers and are made black in color. In this competitive business world, it has become essential for every business to provide best facilities with the best price in order to attract more customers towards the product. In this aspect, it has been viewed that PS4 has been priced at ?349, while Xbox One is priced at ?429 which reflect a vast price difference when both the console are compared (Neal, “Xbox One vs. PS4 specs comparison”). The Xbox one also provides certain feature that provides the opportunity of deciding how personalize is Xbox one and their family through inclusion of privacy settings, manual or automated sign-in and how data should be consumed. Moreover, the console also provides facilities like voice command and gesture control a remote control or a smart glass device. Furthermore, Xbox One allows users to conduct voice chat using Skype with any platform that supports it, however, if Skype is not supported the gamer would still be able to see who is online and send messages (Microsoft, “The all-in-one entertainment system”). It is worth mentioning that all the features that are present in Xbox One are integrated in PS4 as well. However, Sony has also unveiled a new service known as PS plus. This would provide the opportunity for an individual to enjoy all the program benefits across the PS4, PS3 and PS vita system which can be regarded as a major feature of Sony to attract more customers (CyberScholar, “Sony Unveils PS4™ At E3”). ANALYZING THE DATA With respect to the above stated data of two of the most spoken consoles that is yet to be launched for the public, people are finding it difficult to select which product to go for as both the console comes from two of the most recognized companies in the world. However, it has been viewed that both the console provides the best facility in comparisons to other gaming devices present in the market. If compared with each other both the device provides facilities that provide world class gaming experience. When compared both the consoles are almost same with a slight difference in their features. CONCLUSION The existence of video games can be witnessed from the past. In the earlier days video games was considered to be a means of leisure and relaxation. People liked playing games in malls, and in their homes. However, with the passing days the advent of different technological aspect and increasing rush in the present life style has almost extinguished the practice of playing video games from people life. Currently, different organizations are adapting modern technologies for developing video game consoles to uplift and promote the practice of playing video games. In comparison to the two most spoken video game consoles that is going to get released on the month of November, 2013 it has been viewed that the two consoles are best in their own way. However, on close comparisons it has been viewed that PS4 has more features and the series has been in the market before the Xbox series. Additionally, Sony is considered to be a major player in the electronic market and has been known for its innovative way of introducing new technology in their products.
