Comprehensive Exam The company aims at crafting and executing strategy, which remains to be at the center of the company and management of the business; thus, the company constantly acknowledges strategies and endeavors to perform them proficiently. The company comprehends that management involvement in developing and executing company strategies is crucial since it gives special attention to management’s direction-setting like setting performance targets and strategies capable of producing desired outcomes. The mission of the company is giving customers the best value for their money available anywhere as well as providing them with the necessary information for making informed buying decisions. The company goals for the next five years include: 1. Remaining profitable 2. Business growth and 3. Customer service The business not only considers its own goals but also values the goals of the various stakeholders like its employees, the community, lenders and ultimately its customers. Therefore, the company values positive relations with vendors, the community, employees, lenders, and even though the company has set customer goals, the company values additional goal of improving customer lives by offering them products or services they need. As a manager in the company, I would use leadership theories to develop inner leadership skills and learning basic knowledge through experience. The skills include self-assessment like looking at my personal leadership skills, internal motivators like the thing that motivates to be a leader as well as the personal professional vision. Ultimately, leadership theories focus on whether a leader is real and honest and skills on self-knowledge, regulation and self-concept that focus on values and belief of an individual. Servant leadership asks an employee to do what the leader is willing to do by himself moreover servant leadership ensures a leader works with the employees by employing the skills of empathy, motivation of employees as well as active listening. As well, transformational leadership theories encourage employees, ensure that the employees do their best, and foster close relation with employees by using skills that ensure employees devote to their tasks combined with skills for encouraging employees. The essential group information for ensuring that the group succeeds includes background factors like personality, gender, age attitudes, values and fundamental interpersonal relations orientation. Small groups share three needs that help fulfill tasks and the needs include inclusion, which ensures that a group increases its productivity, accomplish goals and meet more customer needs. For the small group, information on control is useful since it would help deal with the need to lead and develop power over other people; as well affection enhances friendship and closeness between people. Information on age would be essential since communication patterns change with time from childhood through adolescence to adulthood and old age. Personality information of people within the group is helpful to a manager since it offers information on how people behave; therefore, in looking for a dynamic group I would have to figure out how to work with the various personalities of individuals within the group and watching how they perform. Moreover, information on attitudes of individuals within the group is crucial since it enables me act accordingly with each individual and help correct those attitudes that do not support the business initiatives. As well, information on values of individuals within the group is essential to the success of the group in enhancing the company goals and attaining them. Moreover, in the group communication is key point since it affects the development of the group therefore information of the various forms of communication and their possible impacts on the development of the group is essential. Intentional communication is essential in communicating purpose to the group, persuading others, getting points across and prompting action. Verbal communications as well as nonverbal communication are essential to the success of the group initiatives; as well, defensive and supportive communication is essential through giving different opinions and supporting ideas within the group. In addition, leadership styles are essential to the success of the group regardless of whether the style is authoritarian where the leader maintains control of the group or democratic where a leader gives direction but shows no interest of dominating. Even though the group is made up senior managers and various administrators of different cultures, Erikson shows that when an individual is eager to develop his or her personality from different people through experiences and knowledge to improve the individual’s capabilities. It would be essential to understand the personality of the various professional in the team Moreover, Vygotsky shows that development is driven by language, social context and guidance; thus, it would be crucial for me to understand the cultural background, social context and adult guidance of the various administrators in the group. From Maslow’s theory all humans regardless of their race gender and background have various universal needs therefore; I would have to understand the basic needs, self-esteem and self-confidence, friendships and family as well as the ability to solve problems of the various group members. Moreover, will have to be aware that reinforcement and punishment mould behavior as indicated by Skinner in behaviorism theory thus; positive or negative conditioning has its consequences to the company. In understanding the dimensions of diversity in the company, I would employ the model developed by Loden that illustrates diversity in three dimensions the primary that involves physical dimensions, secondary dimension as well as tertiary dimension. However, certain attributes are believed to foster leadership and they include trustworthiness; having foresight; encouraging and motivating, and building confidence; remaining positive and dynamic as well as being communicative and team integrator. I will have to consider cultural and social intelligence as well as the aspects of professional presence and communication is it non-verbal, verbal or even written. I have to aware of diversity in the company both individually and within the workplace by considering both individual uniqueness, which combines nature and nurture and teamwork fitting. Moreover, I would have to embrace social awareness and empathy based on the surrounding community since empathy involves putting myself in other people’s shoes. Conflicts are a natural occurrence in human interactions thus differences can occur like differing opinions, perspectives and solutions; hence the need to understand various approaches to conflicts. As I may face ethical or legal issues I will include changes from one part to another in accordance to the different rules in different part of the world; therefore, I would have to foster a culture that never entertains destructive behaviors but enhances justice, integrity and structural reinforcement. Moreover, I will have to address diversity concerns like treating everyone equally and ensuring no discrimination takes place based on ethnicity, gender or age. The research question is how does customer service interact with company profitability? Hence the research topic is the interaction between profitability and customer service. The goal is profitability and the independent variable is customer service the levels of customer service include criminal, basic, expected, desired, surprising and unbelievable. The dependent variable is profitability and to measure profitability I would consider income that translates into profit, which is highly influenced by customer service. To carryout systematic sampling there is need to determine the sampling interval using the formula: Sampling = Sampling interval = = 20 After calculating the sampling interval, select the first BSU, which is a random number between the sampling interval calculated and beginning from number 1 of the list of people count BSUs until I reach the one that has number I picked randomly. To choose the next BSU I will add the sampling interval to first BSU and the subsequent BSU’s are selected in the same way, adding sampling interval to the number found for the previous BSU. The procedure faces the threat of selection bias when assigning participants to groups disregarding if the process has any effect on outcome. Moreover, similar pre and posttest face the threat of reactive effects of testing that involve interactions between pretest and the intervention; as well the procedure faces the threat of instrumentation since the dependent variable varies from pretest to posttest. Information from various courses helped by providing information suitable for the analysis of the case study like the various courses in leadership styles, leadership potential, group process legal and ethical issues, social intelligence, human development theories as well as multicultural issues.
