Perhaps, according to the character his skills in this language were never referred to as poor but he never performed best. Compared to maths and sciences, he always scored A’s in these subjects unlike in the English subject where he used to score B’s. Although math has only one specific answer while English answers are based on personal judgment and experience he still scored highest in maths.

Consequently, Eliza Doolittle who comes from a poor background and who has a flower shop has bad English due to the cultural influence and has to be helped by Henry to improve her language to become good. He is told how to improve her pronunciation to become more fluent to be able to communicate with different kinds of people. It is of great importance for Eliza to be told how to pronounce English well so as to be serving different kinds of people regardless of their origin or background. Henry has an inner motive or rather it can be called personal intentions while teaching Eliza how to pronounce well because he wants to marry her. It can be seen as early preparation because Henry also does the act of teaching Eliza English because it is viewed as for the high-class people.

Concurringly; different ways of identity are intertwined in how different people speak and the ways in which a person feels their own tongues. The view that language is a symbol that brings those people who speak it together is clearly explained in the example given by Amy Tan. Further the play defined home languages as those which are spoken back at home by families when they are together. Because of the persistent practice and speaking of English, the character has lost most of the traditional influence. After 250 years of colonization, the Spanish that is being spoken is different. The practice of adjusting vowels into single syllables and other times shifting the stress into certain words is commonly practiced.

Consequently, the biblical of childhood is also clearly explained. During the early days of school, the main character was the only black person; his other colloquies were white. He brings into the mind of the readers the scenario that one faces as a child when introduced to school when they were used to spending most of their time with parents and families. Eliza at the first time felt out of place as most of the attention was drawn to him sarcastically by even the nuns who controlled the school. Though he come from a fair background, his parents had ambitions and faith in whatever little they got to run the family affairs. Eliza lived in a world composed of many different languages. His lifestyle never changed at any given time. Outside their house was the public society and when he came back to the house was the private society. He used to interact with her friends outside the house who specked different languages but when he returned to the house, his mother and dad will always talk in their mother tongue which made it called a private society (Moraga and Gloria). Eliza argues that biblical supporter of today explains that those who did not get the opportunity to be taught their family language missed a great deal. He explains that most of the time their family gather at night to practice what was referred to as their English. They could try to define different terms, pronounce them and even they would play with strange English sounds. Grew up Eliza victim of disabling confusion because at some times, he spent half of his time in an American university and his vacation spent at home. He faced embarrassment from her parents who would regularly introduce him to be having inability to speak fluent Spanish because of influence from the school he was in. Gradually, could Eliza no longer speak the Spanish language and her grandmother always mocked him for that. When the family visited Eliza in the school, his grandmother would search for him amongst the many cousins who had visited him while pinching them. He learned a little language and liked listening to those social activities and those who proposed using traditional language. He concludes that those people who sing celebrate their human voice.

According to my experience, it is true that different speakers while addressing individuals are treated differently in terms of their education level and background-origin. For instance, a good example that concurred with this saying was during a thanksgiving ceremony in our university where different speakers were given different chances to deliver their speeches. Amongst them were two old woman’s who were given the chance to represent the neighbors and were to deliver a speech about the good relationship between the university and them. The entire speaker on that occasion where a group of professors and other literate individuals, unlike the neighbors. The entire speaker who made their speech during that day were given special privilege and honor except the two women who only had to speak their English which consisted of some terms mother tongue and others were translations from Spanish. This occasion clearly shows that speakers are treated differently according to their levels of education and how they pronounce their words.
