Despite several years of protests and resistance, the government eventually accepted the gay population and thereby accorded them the several human rights as enjoyed by any other effectively sexually oriented person in the country. While giving his verdict in the case, justice Anthony argued that it made no sense to accord the gays and lesbians all other human rights and still have policies that restrict their social lives. Additionally, psychologists have often argued that sexuality is just a psychological aspect as it is physical. Several factors determine a person’s sexuality and not necessarily the presence of either a male or a female sexual organ. By discriminating against the homosexual, the society becomes oblivious to the different factors that result in sexual attraction. Furthermore, the United States has one of the most elaborate bill of rights, one emulated by several democracies all over the world. It, therefore, becomes redundant for such a country to formulate and implement policies that stifle the very human rights that its bill of rights seek to defend. The proponents of the abolition of gay marriages are often religious leaders who continue to teach their followers that homosexuality is a sin and therefore not acceptable. They consist of both a section of Christians and their Muslim counterparts. While Christians continue to face division on the issue with several clerics already endorsing the gay marriages, their Muslim counterparts continue to maintain a more stringent view to the issue of homosexuality. Most Islamic states outlaw such acts thereby denying their population the freedom of choice. However, those in the American society enjoy the liberal human rights that safeguard the interest of every human (Shanty and Patit 22). Religion is an important aspect of the human life. Religion ione of the most essential social pillars that hold the social fabric in societies together, it provides a benchmark with which people assess their behaviors thereby resulting in a cohesive society in which everyone enjoys equality. The American constitution safeguards the freedom of religion and worship thereby allowing the population to own different religions and viewpoints on their social life. Everyone exists peacefully with their neighbors owing to their compliance with the social norms and virtues. Such values are creations of religions. Furthermore, religions have an effective way of imparting the thoughts into their followers by coercing compliance in a systematic way, which ensures that every believer upholds the dictates of the religion. From the elaborate discussion of religions, it becomes imperative that religions are often products of social aspects of life and in most cases creations of humans. They have a systematic way of addressing the social values and often result in a peaceful environment in which everyone enjoys a number of universal liberties. Because of this expansive yet useful effect of religions, most countries develop their constitutions in accordance to the dictates of the religion providing equality before the law as espoused in a number of religions among other important aspects of human life. However, it is important for clerics and other religious leaders to realize that societies and government are ...Download file to see next pagesRead More
