Basketball game has existed for quite a number of decades and it has come to be one of the most popular games especially in the United States. Most of those who play this game professionally are heroes to those who watch them play, and one would even go as far as to say that they tend to have a strong following among their fans. Basketball has from its very beginning, been a male dominated sport and this has continued to be the case to the present. While this is true, women have also come to join in the sport, with the creation of a women’s basketball league among other competitions for women.

I am of the opinion that the basketball played by men is still more popular because it has a greater following. I would agree with the statement that men’s basketball is better than that of women because of several factors. Among these if the fact that women’s basketball is predictable and that women tend to be more careful and are expected to behave in a civilized manner. Women’s basketball is one of the most predictable sports today and this is because they tend to be extremely careful and cautious when playing.

They tend to shy away from taking any risks and do not do as much to impress and entertain the fans as male players do. The predictability of the women’s game can be seen through the data available that shows that in all the years that women’s basketball has been recognized, only a handful of their teams have reached the finals. I would say that even before the game begins, the fans always know which team is going either to win or to lose. The aspect of unpredictability tends to be lost this way and because of this, women’s basketball tends to have a very small fan following.

Men’s basketball is the direct opposite, since it is the unpredictability of the game, which ensures that it has a constant and dedicated following. When a game begins, no one knows which team s going to win because the scale may tip for either one side or the other. This also ensures that the teams, which will reach the finals, are unknown from the beginning of the season. In men’s basketball, there have been some unexpected surprises when some teams, which many fans had little or no high expectations for, have ended up reaching and even winning the finals.

In men’s basketball, the players are hardly ever expected to be reserved and one is likely to witness a heated exchange or even a fight during a game. The use of profanities is common in men’s basketball and in fact, it is expected by the fans, many of who pay for tickets just for the opportunity of getting to witness such events. In addition, men’s basketball is more entertaining because of the tendency among almost all the players to dunk, something that many women players cannot do. Moreover, male players tend to focus more on the attainment of points than on any other thing, and that is always the aim even when they are doing their best to entertain their fans.

In women’s basketball, however, the players are restricted by societal expectations from using the same profanities that men do, and this can be considered by many to be boring. Women players are not always focused in the attainment of points through making high scores, and this reduces the fan base because many fans prefer witnessing basketball games that have high scores. Male basketball has been around longer and is better known than women’s basketball, and because of this, it has players who are not only icons, that can be easily recognized all over the world, but are also household names.

This is something that women’s basketball is yet to achieve and the possibility of such achievements still lays far into the future. In conclusion, I can say that in the game of basketball, the men’s game is still the more popular and better than its counterpart is. The large following it has is based mainly on its unpredictability as well as the ability of the players within it to entertain their fans. Furthermore, the men’s game tends to be much less restricted than that of women and this has ensured that people go to watch it for the fun that may occur in the game.

While this is the case, women’s basketball is also picking up speed and developing a following and it is likely that it will catch up with its counterpart in popularity in the near future.
