Traumatic brain injury covers the trauma s that causes an alteration in the brain functionality. The damage to the brain in traumatic brain injuries alter the way the individual thinks, acts moves. Traumatic brain injuries refer to injuries that cause a change in any of these factors EFFECTS ON SOCIETY The effects of traumatic brain injury affect the individuals’ social life and leads to the compromise of the connection of the individual to society. The main problem stems from the behavior of the individual that tend to alienate that individual from society (McDonald 24).
The rejection by society after the individual behaves in an inappropriate way is a serious problem. The lack of understanding by the society of the circumstances relating to the change in behavior translates to the alienation of the individuals with traumatic brain injury. Destruction of marital connections, difficulty in getting employed and exploitation by social predators are some of the effects related to traumatic brain injury. The lack of emotional control also aggravates the problem further.
SYMPTOMS The symptoms of TBI vary depending on the magnitude of the trauma and the damage done to the brain. Severe traumas cause effects that are more notable while mild traumas usually result in temporary symptoms that may eventually go away. The basic symptoms associated with physical difficulties includes difficult in speech, hearing, sight and senses. Headaches and tiredness also are symptoms of traumatic brain injuries. Severe cases of traumatic brain injuries also result in paralysis, seizures, loss of body balance and walking may be affected.
There are also the difficulties associated with thinking where there is a compromise in the ability to use the brain by the damage sustained through the injury (Springer 78). The injuries affect the short term memories as well as the long term memories and individuals always have a problem with memories. Traumatic brain injuries lead to a change in the socialization of the individual and results from the lack of control of emotions. It is, however, imperative to note that injuries to the brain may have a wide range of psychological and physical effects, which may show immediately, or after some time from the moment of the trauma.
TREATMENT It is advisable for anyone with mild or severe symptoms of trauma to find medical care as soon as possible. In the occasion, that a person gets diagnosed with traumatic brain injury it becomes essential to address the matter at the early stages. There are various rehabilitation programs that assist individuals with traumatic brain injury to overcome the adverse effects of traumatic brain injury. The realization that the individual needs rehabilitation is essential in the treatment of TBI.
The method used in the U.S involves cognitive rehabilitation and includes a focus on problems related to interpersonal communications, which is the chief cause of social problems these individuals encounter. The treatment method aims to address this problem and, therefore, reduce the social consequences related to traumatic brain injury. According to Ponsford and Pamela the treatment of traumatic brain injury focuses on this goal since the main problem related to the condition has a social perspective (56).
