Extract of sample "Comparison of Eminem is Right and Marriage"

The breakdown of the family has been critical for many of the emergent musical groups which kids are relating to these days.  Basically, the pain and hurt of divorce have really affected the family structure, and all these types of music somehow tap into that pain and loneliness that a divorce creates within the structure of the modern family.  It comes as no surprise that much of this music which is being proffered today, including the likes of Papa Roach’s first album Infest, sold millions due to its explosive lyrics which talked about how his parents divorced, forever affecting him in terms of being able to cope with life.  Two other band members out of the four lived in similar familial situations.

It is no secret that, in the United States, most first marriages (50%) end in divorce.  Not only that, but a majority of second marriages (60%) are likely to end in divorce as well.  To summarize, the next article that will be reviewed is Marriage.  This article talks about how the divorce rate must and should decline—because if not, families are left in the lurch.  Children, not to mention men and women, are all affected by the painful aftershocks of divorce, rendering the family structure incomplete and broken.  According to the second article by Sider (2011), “The author discusses marriage rates and divorce rates and asserts that multiple marriages have become more common in the U.S.” (pp. 248).

III.  Comparative and Contrasting Points

There will be two comparative points and two contrasting points.  The first comparative point that both of these articles make is that the breakdown of the family is stemming from the hardships that have happened to families due to divorce.  Divorce has ravaged the family, and that is exactly the message that both of these articles are trying to convey.  Families are in trouble due to the fact that people are acting very unstable in their relationships.  The first people to suffer are the children.  The second comparative point that the article makes is that the divorce rate must be stopped because if it isn’t, more families will be split apart.  That is the main point that the article is trying to make.  In contrast, the first point that makes the articles differ is that both articles do not deal expressly with music—only the first article deals with how music and the music industry have capitalized upon the fact that many families are broken and in need of desperate repair.  The second point that makes the articles differ is that the second article, Marriage, is written with the idea that it can unify couples from a religious standpoint, while the other article deals with the fact that people simply have to wake up and realize that they need to repair their relationships so that children can stop being alienated from their families, in the article Eminem is Right.  In sum, these articles both have at least two elements in common, but they also have at least two characteristics that differ—making this piece one that has been adequately compared and contrasted.  Hopefully, due to these articles, people will learn.

  1. Conclusion

In this paper, two articles—Eminem is Right and Marriage—were compared and contrasted.  In order to perform this analysis, the following was completed:  each article was briefly summarized; elements of each article were compared and contrasted; and then, finally, here it was concluded that both articles had enough in common to warrant a general statement about divorce and the breakdown of the family.  The family has been ravaged by divorce, and, as far as anyone may be able to tell, it is not certain when the stable picture of the “family” will return.  Since the family has so drastically changed in recent years, it is unsure when the family structure will be woven together again for everyone’s good
