The Poles Transient Responses - Lab Report Example

Summary
This laboratory is designed in order to study a system that would suffice the specifications demanded by the transient state and the steady-state of poles. The design is expected to help to eradicate the limitations existing in the currently used techniques, with the creation of transient response…

It is likely to be conditional, which will only be possible if the transient responses generated by the poles are located on their root locus. This laboratory will further make use of the cascade compensation system or the feedback compensation system that would help mitigate the gain adjustment limitations effectively. When constructing laboratory 1, the characteristics of a DC motor servomechanism were taken into consideration. It has been fundamentally based on the fact that early experiments depicted certain limitations on controlling the response characteristics of components with respect to gain variations, which were again proportional or relative to various other attributes.

One of these conditions was to have the poles fixed to their root locus to generate responses constituted with the desired characteristics. Taking due note of these limitations, as prevalent in the previous experiments, this laboratory has made use of the Proportional-Derivative (PD) compensation system that was expected to prove efficient in attaining the desired specifications through the poles’ transient responses. The model used with respect to the PD compensation system in this laboratory comprised both pure gain actions and differentiator actions, which are also denoted as proportional actions and ideal derivative actions respectively.

A better illustration of the PD compensation model has been illustrated in Figure 1 below, for a better and more comprehensive understanding. Elaborating further on this laboratory experiment, which inculcated the PD model, the proportional gain or the pure gain actions are likely to be relative to the identified current error e(t). This can be explained with the formulae that were up(t) = Kpe(t). Correspondingly, the transfer function applicable in this scenario can be expressed as Up(s) = Kp.
