It is considered the perfect product for all kinds of industries. The belt is effective as it increases the chances of efficiency in the retailing process including manufacturing distribution and wholesaling. The belts in companies are installed in relation to the needs the customers want to be achieved. The design, manufacturing, and installation of the product must meet the needs of the customers as well as those of the regulating bodies. The tasks below show how all the factors play a major role in the design, and manufacture of the A8120 belt conveyor. A8120 Series Belt Conveyors Introduction A8120 belt conveyors is a series that mainly contains aluminium, leading to its branding as one of the heavy and medium duty belts. Based on the strength and robustness that the belt possess, it comes with a very wide variety of numerous handling applications. The belt is easily maintained based it is manufactured from the extruded aluminium with skid beds and 113dia drive drums, which contain heavy materials. Thus, the tension housed by the idler rollers and the drive is stopped also, but it necessitates the development of routine maintenance of the systems. The A8120 belt conveyors come with adtrack. It is a guidance belt system, which plays the role of increasing the belt life of the conveyor, which increases the security of the operations when using the belt. It is mainly used in the operations of large conveyor systems including the fully automated production lines. The robustness and versatility of the A8120 brands it the best choice to be used in constant and high throughput applications, which is cost effectiveness. When additional height is needed, the bespoke is used for manufacturing the leg frames or castors, which can be either constant or adjustable for end stops, under-guarding, side guides and other electrical points of control among others. The customers require the belt since it saves the labor process as it increases the movement of bulk materials while engaging in a smaller unit for storage and reduced labor costs. The A8120 belt conveyors are beneficial to the customers since they are of the highest quality, given that they are the heavy-duty materials. The quality of the A8120 benefits and meets the requirements of the customers through the process of reducing the stretch of the belt leading to lower adjustments and maintenance of the belt. The product design specifications of the product are reliant on the usage and application of the conveyors in different industries, including their reliability and durability. The customer requirements of the A8120 conveyor belt include factors such as an improved efficiency. The performance of the belt should operate at a higher power with a high-speed belt and operate for a long period. Another specification is for the conveyor to operate both externally and internally. Though the Aluminium A8120 is an expensive product due to the materials used, the cost should be effective. The size and weight of the product must also be met. The size of the product as presented is 200mm long *50mm high and 125mm wide. The terminal diameter of the rollers should include the 113mm, 80mm and 38mm of diameter. The drive of the A8120 series conveyor belt is a motorised drive drum. The safety of the product is ensured through the design and development of the product complying with the BS standards (Tooley & Dingle, 2007). Task Two: A8120 Major Design Parameters The major design parameters include the layout of the product, erection methods, materials, transportation, manufacture, safety, legal implications, and fabrication. Performance: The performance of the A8120 series is high since it is highly reliable for the transportation of bulk and light products at cost effective prices. The products are heavy duty, resilient and can be used for distribution and wholesaling as well. The performance of the A8120 series is related to the lowered lead times of transporting the products at a higher quality rate. The drive drum is used to power the conveyor. It meets the requirements of the customers since it has the capability of transporting a massive range of products for production lines (Advance Automated Systems, 2017). It is beneficial to the customer since it meets their production line needs effectively for the transportation of large and light materials. Environment: The operating environment of the product is in a production line where it will mainly be used to transport materials including feeding the packaging and dispatching processes from the different manufacturing units of the customers company. Thus, the design of the product must be heavy and durable in harsh environments and work continuously without fail (BS 7373-1, 2001, 12). The A8120 series is considered a heavy-duty product, which makes it suitable for the company. Maintenance: The A8120 series belt is easily maintained and serviced. More importantly, through regularly check-ups the product increases its lifecycle. The servicing occurs to guarantee any necessary repairs are made such as when a belt is worn out among others. The durability of the A8120 series ensures that the cost of maintenance is low, which also brands it as the perfect product and design for the company. Costs: The A8120 series belt conveyor are quite expensive compared to other products. However, based on the durability and reliability of the products the cost is acceptable. Manufacture: During the first phase of the design process, the flexibility of manufacturing the associated parts of the product has to be considered. It is a major design parameter since it influences cost of the product highly. It ensures that detail is considered at every important part while other non-functional parts should be omitted. The process considers the complexity and cost of production methods. It considers the assurance of the safety use, function and economy to guarantee the satisfaction of the customers. It includes ensuring the form, shape, use, texture and color of the product meets the satisfaction of the customers. More importantly, the designer must ensure the legal implications of the product development, legislation, toxic waste disposal and health issues among others that must be guaranteed during the design process of the product. Quality and Safety: Safety requirements are ensured through meeting the requirements of the regulations provided by bodies such as BS products, HASAWA and COSHH among others. The technical documentation of the product is key in ensuring the quality of the product. It includes ensuring a product undergoes stages such as the review process, the testing of the product and documentation, which guarantees the customer satisfaction. The processes guarantee reliability, performance of the product, maintainability, produce-ability, safety and standardization among others (BS 7373-3, 2005, 24). Task 3: Product Design Specification of A8120 PDS is the specification that conveys the description of the designer product. The PDS considers factors such as the performance of the conveyor belt including the cost, function, production problems and aesthetics among others. The PDS is, more importantly, reliant on the customer requirements. The A8120 series is an aluminium belt conveyor that mainly ranges from 120 * 40-aluminium profile (Darbyshire, 2010, 292). Belt tension: the conveyor of the belt experiences the tensile load since the electric drive rotation leads to a major rotation. The tension is also conveyed by other factors such as the load of the materials that are conveyed connected to the idlers of the materials (Alspaugh, 2008, 37). The tension of the belt occurs at a steady state, which is given by calculation the Newton, presented as Tb in equations. The tension of the belt is the amount of tension maintained under normal drive conditions that develop the belt size. The belt tension should not drop below the tension used, if it drops the tension amount should be re-tensioned. However, if the belt is worn out it ought to be replaced. The equation of the belt tension is given by: Tb = 1.37 * f * l * g * {2 * mi + (2 * mb + mm) * cos (σ)} + (H * g * mm) Where: f = the friction co-efficient L = length of the conveyor (m); it is nearly semi the length total the belt has g = Gravity speeding up which is mainly 9.81 m/sec2 mi = idlers weight given in Kg/m mb = belt weight/ load given in Kg/m mm = conveyed load of the material given in Kg/m σ = Angle of inclination given in degrees H = conveyors vertical elevation (m). More importantly, the drive pulley power of the conveyor can be given from the tension of the belt. The idlers load can be provided through mi = (the idlers set mass) / (spacing of the idlers) The idlers is an important belt conveyor system since it provides the conveyed materials with stability. The input designs begins by implementing the conveyor capacity, the density of the bulk conveyed materials, the belt conveyor belt and speed of the belt. The output of the idler design begin by expressing the spacing of the idlers, idler speed, load of the idler and the diameter of idler given in meters (Suvo1, 2010). Spacing of the idlers can be given through: S = (8 * T1 * H) / (mb + ml) * g S = spacing given in meters. T1 =the tension of the belt of the idler H = the sag of the belt (m) mb = belt of the weight (K/m) mi = conveyed material weight (kg/m) g = gravity acceleration The conveyed material weight is given through the equation: mi = (10* w) / (36 * v) Where: mb is given in kg/m W = conveyor capacity V = speed of the belt (m/sec) The speed of the idler s given = N = (60 * v) / ti * D) N = RPM V = Speed of the belt (m/sec) D = the idlers diameter The tension of the belt during the start of the conveyor should be higher than the steady state tension (Suvo, 2010). Thus, to calculate the tension of the belt while starting the conveyor should be calculates as: Tbs = Tb * Ks Tb = The belt tension at a steady state given by N Ks = the factor for start-up The minimum motor that the belt should have is important as it influences effective sizing. Task 4: Assurance the Requirements are met According to BS7373 Target: It is a version of A8120, which will be effective for packaging process in the production line. The appearance and reliability of the conveyor is effective and increases a close transfer pint. Function: The specific function of the product is for packaging and dispatch purposes. That is the main purpose of the installed product, which presents it meets the customers’ requirements. Material: it meets the customer requirements through the heavy-duty materials that brand it as a heavy duty and reliable product. It contains of a metal frame and rollers at the ends. The business increases the retail efficiency. Product: The manufactured purposes of the product is to increase the efficiency in the distribution, dispatching, retailing, and packaging among other factors. Thus, the needs and requirements of the customers are met. Inspection: It was met through meeting the reviews of the product from the first stage of the design, manufacture and installation. That is; the design stage of the product development is met through meeting the BS standards of product development, and other stages meet the needed documents. Test: The products operations was tested first after the manufacture of the product after it was installed to ensure it performed the operations as expected. Handling: The A8120 conveyor belts like others are handled through using reels with shafts that can handle the protruding tines. Spreader bar are used to protect the edges of the belt. The reels with the spreader bars were provided during the installation, ensuring the customers ease of handling the product. Maintenance: The product is to be checked regularly or often as required by the regulatory bodies. The product does not require frequent changes but will be reviewed often for efficiency in maintaining the product (Alspaugh, 2008, 67). Disposal: the components used to manufacture the products have high durability. Thus, the disposal of the components or the product in general will occur through recycling. Conclusion The design and manufacture of the a8120 belt discussed in the assignment above met all the requirement of the customer. It was effective in ensuring that purpose of the product in the company would be effective by using the product. The product will meet its main purpose, which is packaging and dispatching from the manufacturing units in the company.
