Copper has Young’s modulus of 140GPa and a Poisson’s ratio of 0.3. Calculate the effective modulus at the interface when two copper plates are loaded together.Copper has a modulus of 140 GPa and a hardness of 700 MPa. Estimate the elastic strain in copper at the yield stress.The aim of the experiment is to find out the relationship between length wire and force, whether the extension of wire will affect the force or not. The experiment is to find out the elasticity of the copper. The stress and strain will be found out and after that, the young modulus of the material of the copper wire will be found outHypothesis:The wire will be stretched when pulled by the force of the weight and flexibility of the material.

The more flexible the material is the more chance of the material being stretched. The copper wire will have a young’s modulus of 130 Gpa and the secondary source has this worked out. The stretching force which extends the material by equal steps is called Hooke’s law.Ferrous alloys are usually consumed in large quantities due to the wide range of mechanical properties that can be fabricated with ease and it is economical to produce.However, they possess some distinct limitations, chieflya relatively high density; therefore heavier in weight,a comparatively low electrical conductivity, andan inherent susceptibility to corrosion in some common environments.

It is an advantage to use non-ferrous alloys that are having more suitable property combinations for many applications. The distinction is made as cast and wrought alloys in non-ferrous alloys. Cast alloys are alloys that are brittle and formed by deformation that is not possible ordinarily. Wrought Alloys are agreeable to mechanical deformation. The alloy systems heat treatability is mentioned.Heat-treatable designates an alloy whose mechanical strength is improved by precipitation hardening etc.

Non-ferrous metals/alloys are not iron-based.The more common non-ferrous materials are the following metallic elements and their alloys:1. Copper 2. Aluminum3. Magnesium4. Lead5. Nickel6. Tin7. Zinc8. Cobalt etc.COPPERThe main grades of raw copper used for cast copper base alloysare:(a) High conductivity copper (electrolytic) having not less than 99.9% Cu. The content of the oxygen may be of order .40%, Pb and Fe less than 0.005% each. Ag 0.002% and Bi less than 0.001%. Electrolytic copper is used for electrical purposes.
