The research will first focus on the quantity of the mineral content that can be replaced using the waste tires and the manner in which the properties of the concrete are affected by the introduction of the crumb rubber into its contents. While doing this research, it is important to bear in mind the fact that for new material to be accepted in the engineering sector as an engineering material, its behavior and properties must be properly understood. Besides this, the material must be accepted by all the regulating agencies.

The role that is played by the crumb rubber in the replacement of the fine aggregates in the concrete will be examined together with the different types of treatments and additives that result from the properties of the concrete (Savas et al, 2006). The conventional concrete that does not contain any additives of crumb rubber will be compared against that containing crumb rubber through the examination of the compressive strength and the workability of the concrete.Accidents that occur on the roads caused by motor vehicles on the highways result in a massive loss of life and economic resources in the United Kingdom.

An improvement of the crash cushioning capacity of the roadside barriers can play a very vital role in the minimization of these losses (Fatuhi & Clark, 2006). The addition of crumb rubber into concrete allows the manufacture of lightweight concrete that is able to absorb the shock and offer the necessary support. The problem of waste disposal is considered one of the most crucial problems facing the world today as a source of environmental pollution. In the last couple of years, a number of improvements have been realized in industrial, social, and economic parts of life in the United Kingdom (Fatuhi & Clark, 2006).

Just like all the other countries in the world, this has lead to a transformation of the way of life of the inhabitants thus increasing the human requirements and the types and quantities of the waste disposed to the environment.
