Manufacturing system and quality By + Introduction Manufacturing systems and quality focuses on economics, quality and organization of the manufacturing industry. There is high efficiency in current manufacturing process with the high profitability that they obtain relying on efficient management of organization and the products that are produced. In attaining the efficiency, there are consideration of lean management, just in time production, total quality management and total productive maintenance. Lean manufacturing brings about efficiency as there is consideration of how work gets done in the manufacture process. Just in time factor is important in supplying what are needed by the consumer as the supply is fast (Charantimath, 2011). Total quality management involves altering of processes in the manufacturing process to ensure that there is meeting the goals of the organization. Eight pillars in total productive maintenance ensure effectiveness in production process. The pillars are mainly focused on preventive and proactive techniques that are used for improving the liability of equipment (Wilson, 2010). Lean manufacturing Lean manufacture considers several factors to bring efficiency. Lean manufacture principle focuses on the consumer. Through the consideration, all that is needed by a consumer is value. Value in manufacture occurs when there is creation of goods and services that perceives highly as compared to their costs (Charantimath, 2011). In manufacture, lean principles ensure efficiency through the determination of the wants of the consumers and how there can be provision better services, cheaper services and being time convenient. Lean manufacturing brings about efficiency as there is consideration of how work gets done in the manufacture process. There are always several assumptions that are made on how work is done in the manufacture process. This leads to lack of reflection on the exact activities that are carried out in the manufacture process (McCormick, 2002). In dealing with this to ensure efficiency, lean manufacture uses those that are not in the manufacture process to observe the steps in the manufacture process to ensure that the processes satisfy the needs of consumers (Naidu, Babu & Rajendra, 2006). Lean management improves efficiency through removal of inefficiencies and wastes. When there is removal of the inefficiencies, the manufacture process will be that which ensures that the process meets its goal of satisfaction of the wants of the consumers. Lean manufacture removes the inconveniencies such as overproductions, delay in the manufacture process, taking of steps that are not necessary in improving production and duplication of efforts (Naidu, Babu & Rajendra, 2006). Lean management increases efficiency as it works with evidence. The manufacturing process entails tracking numbers and management of the results by evidence. Testing the process ensures that there is achievement of goals of manufacturing a product or service. The process in lean manufacturing also ensures that there is highlighting and elimination of errors. The process also brings about improvement in value that is continuous as there is no assumption of improvement. Empowerment of those that operate the process is a factor that is considered in lean manufacture. Through the concept of the person being in the process is the one that is able to improve the process; lean manufacturing involves empowerment of workers in ensuring that the goals are achieved. The manufacturing process involves systematic way of operation. The process that is used in manufacturing is never perfect and when in the process, there are changes that will occur. The ability to replicate the steps that are used in the process is the main way which will ensure delivery of long sustainable value of the manufacturing process. Just in time in manufacturing efficiency There are advantages that come about in use of just in time in a manufacturing process. Through the concept, only the materials and components that are required by the consumers are what are purchased from the supplier the efficiency that is got through the practise is that there is no wastage of money and resources in production on extra materials (Wilson, 2010). The resources that are saved in the manufacturing process can be used in other sectors. Just in time factor is important in supplying what are needed by the consumer as the supply is fast. When manufacturing process is able to deliver goods in time for consumers, there is improvement on business culture and builds reliability of a manufacturing process. Just in time is a practise that is able to establish a brand (Wilson, 2010). The efficiency in every stage of the manufacturing process becomes the culture of a business. The culture ensures that there is meeting of consumers’ needs in time. There are factors that are also linked to just in time in manufacturing process that makes. The manufacture process is that which needs to be flexible and efficient. Through this, orders of different quantities are able to be manufactured in the time required and with limitation of costs. These are the ways that can be used in ensuring that there is efficiency in all stages of production. Flexibility is important in just in time manufacturing as this enables adaptations to changes that occur in the manufacturing process. The adaptations keep the goals and objectives of the production line. In just in time manufacturing practise, there is training of staff to be multi-skilled, this increases efficiency in the production process. When the staffs are aware of different tasks in the production process, there is possibility of them being switched from one process of manufacture to the other. Total quality management Total quality management involves altering of processes in the manufacturing process to ensure that there is meeting the goals of the organization. To achieve effectiveness through the process, there is always implementation of the process in different ways to fit the personal goals of the production process. Total quality management hence can be viewed as a management approach that ensures there is long term success through satisfaction of consumers. Efficiency is brought in the manufacturing process as there is participation in involving processes, services, products and the culture of the business. The process of management is mainly concerned in satisfaction of consumer wants. This makes the approach effective. There are principles that are used in total quality management that enhances effectiveness. The principles include an integrated system of operation, total involvement of employees, consumer focused, and process-centred, systematic and strategic approach. Total productive maintenance There are eight pillars in total productive maintenance that ensures effectiveness in production process. The pillars are mainly focused on preventive and proactive techniques that are used for improving the liability of equipment. Autonomous maintenance places responsibility for continuous maintenance of the production process. This ensures there is ownership and improved knowledge of equipment planned maintenance involves scheduled maintenance based on predicted failure rates (McCormick, 2002). The process leads to reduction in instances of unplanned down turn and also the schedules are made when there is no production activity. Quality maintenance is carried out to design error detection and prevention of the errors in the production process. Focused improvement is aimed at having groups of employees work proactively to achieve regular improvement in equipment operation. This leads to identification of recurring problems and solving the problems. Early equipment management is also a factor of consideration that directs practical knowledge in understanding manufacturing equipment. Training and education is a factor that is considered in filling knowledge gap that are necessary for achievement of goals. Through this, there is development of skills for maintaining equipment and identifying problems that are emerging. Safety and environment health is considered in the aspect maintaining a safe and an environment that is safe making the production process an accident free work environment. Administration techniques are also applied by addressing functions that support production through improving administrative operations (McCormick, 2002).
