Introduction: Building a grounded 12v power circuit with 1 resistor

Aim: the circuit should be built after calculations and results are taken and compared with multisim

Equipment:     1) Resistor

                        2) Power Supply (DC)

                        3) Bread Board (Protoboard)

                        4) Resistors

Results:

            To be added by the client

Introduction:

            This lab aims to consider the division of voltage in a series circuit after doing three diagrams.

Procedure:

            Three circuits were built which were as follows

  1. The first circuit had two resistors.
  2. The second resistor had three resistors.
  3. The third circuit had 4 resistors.

The first circuit showed an equal division of voltage between the two resistors added. Both resistors showed the same resistance i.e. 200 ohms with 10v of power.

The second circuit on the other hand showed a difference in resistance between the first two and third resistors. The first two resistors showed a resistance of 100 ohms whereas the third one showed a decreased resistance of 40 ohms. Hence the division of voltage with a 12v power between the three resistors could be as follows: 1st two resistors shared an equal power of 10v whereas the third one received only 2v.

The third circuit with four resistors showed the division of resistance, the first resistor with 200 ohms, the second and third showed 300 ohms and the fourth one showed a resistance of 400 ohms. The division of voltage with 12V power between these four resistors could be as follows: the first resistor received 2V, the second and third with a power of 3V each and the fourth one received 4V of total power.

Calculations: V=IR, the formula shows that the bigger the resistance of a resistor, the more voltage it consumes of the total power.

Multisim signal Generator and Oscilloscope

Introduction: This lab aims to observe different types of waves and frequencies after connecting a signal generator with an oscilloscope.

Equipment:

  • Agilent signal generator
  • Agilent oscilloscope
  • Computer
  • Multisim program

Procedure: After the selection of the required items which could be seen on the right side of the bar on the program, they were linked together.

The Agilent function generator was set on v=gvpp with the frequency set at 20Hz and on the oscilloscope, the time scale was set to 10m/s.

Calculations x 10m/s = 0.05 and since frequency (f) = 1/0.05 = 20 Hz

The voltage scale between each crest and trough of the waves observed is 4 and 2V so 2 x 4 = 8V.

Calculations of ex. 1 and 2:

Ex. 1: When peak to peak voltage scale on the square graph is observed, it is found to be 5 Units and the amplitude scale on the same graph is 2V hence 2 x 5 =10V. Also, when the number of division of each cycle were observed, they were found to be 1, and the since the time scale set is 2 m/s, we can assume that 2x10-3  makes the frequency (f) = 1/2x10-3 = 500Hz.

Ex. 2: Peak-to-peak voltage in this example for one wave is 6V and the scale of amplitude observed is 0.5 so 6 x 0.5 = 3V. The time set for one oscillation at the oscilloscope is 2s which gives us the value of 2 x 500 x 10-3. So the frequency could be f = 1/1 x 10-3 = 1000Hz
