This paper will outline a user guide about multimeters in an engineering context. Part of this paper will include a list of the symbols that are used in engineering in relation to the study of multimeters. The paper also endeavors to shed some light on the major users of multimeter devices and give precautions to be taken when operating the device. Figures, tables and symbols have also been employed all through this multimeter user guide in order to show its efficiency based on the practicality and theoretical view of the device.
Furthermore, the paper also contains the functionality of this critical form of the device and its operational mechanism. All the discussed aspects in the paper will enable efficient use of the multimeters. In addition, the essay will focus on the terms used in general multimeter devices. Lastly, the paper gives a glossary and an appendix of the multimeter user guide just like those that are contained in other user guides. Introduction A multimeter is also referred to as a multitester or a volt-ohm meter (VOM).
The digital multimeters are abbreviated as DMM. This electronic instrument combines several electrical measurements including voltage, resistance, and current. They can also be used in troubleshooting electrical problems that involve both domestic and industrial devices including motor controls, power supplies, wiring systems, domestic appliances, and electronic equipment. Multimeters can either be analog or digital depending on the circuits used. Analog multimeters use analog circuits while digital multimeters use digital circuits (Michael, 2011).
However, the analog meters are slowly being phased out in the recent past because they are based on a micro ammeter. These devices can be hand-held, especially when they are used in field service operations and basic fault finding procedures (Michael, 2011). On the other hand, this device can also be fixed to a bench when they are required to compute a high degree of sensitivity. The multitesters are available worldly, basing on the large array of features they perform. Moreover, their cost ranges from $9 to over $6000 in most countries.
