Stewardship is one of the core values of the NSU College of Nursing. In the objective of the course, the students are expected to be capable of demonstrating stewardship as they formulate motivational strategies for the followers as well as during the process of resolving conflicts. In the spirit of creativity, a core value of the NSU College, the objective of the course, include creating strategies that enhance the students’ ability to lead. Such is only achievable through finding new ways of leading. Also, by aiming at advancing leadership and managerial skills to the students, the course objectives coincides with the competency value of the NSU.

    • Appropriateness of the objectives.

Leadership and managerial skills are critical to practicing nurses whether novice or experienced nurses. The course is aimed at equipping the students with the skills that makes it very appropriate in the nursing curriculum. Also, other skills such conflict resolution and motivation skills are also essential in the workplace environment and thus, the course will make it easier for the students to transit into the practicing environment. As such, the objectives are significant in the acceptance of the course in the nursing curriculum. Through equipping the students with skills related to evidence-based decision-making, the objectives of the course makes it possible for the curriculum to meet the accreditation elements.

  • Conclusion

From the discussions above, it is apparent that the congruence between the course description, objectives, and institutional core values are critical to any nursing curriculum. Such is because the congruence is a requirement for accreditation by regulatory and professional bodies. Also, the congruence influences the learning outcomes. Institutions are therefore obliged to consider congruence in the process of designing the nursing curriculums. In the evaluation of the specific courses under the NSU nursing curriculum, it is evident that most of the course descriptions, course objectives, and institutional core values are congruent. However, little adjustments are critical to ensuring the descriptions and objectives and the core values are entirely congruent.
