School Uniforms Persuasive Essay Essay

The history of school uniforms dates back to 16th century England. The history leaves on with most schools making into a requirement for students to wear uniforms. A heating debate has come up with the public school system across the United States concerning clothing.

Arguments, why scholars should wear uniforms, have been due to its uniting feature in schools. It may also break any form of competition among the students by wearing one uniform. The pro-uniforms argue that the clothing may unite the learners. The argument against wearing such clothing is that it may inhibit the student’s creativity.

This school uniforms persuasive essay essay also explores the argument that uniform may prevent the self-expression of learners. A majority of the people who are against school uniforms are students. Most students feel that wearing uniforms may be in total violation of their rights. However, counterarguments from other students are that wearing a uniform reduces the stress of selecting what to wear in the morning.

Uniforms clothing has, for a long time, promoted unity among students. Students from across all fields gain a sense of equality. On the downside, the self-expression of students may feel limited when forced to wear a piece of clothing.

Bullying has been a growing trend in schools. However, school uniforms fill the gap by uniting every day. When learners wear the same uniform, the clothing makes it hard to differentiate the wealth status of the children. Hence, learners cannot avoid bullying because of their financial background. The argument might hold some water to some extent. However, bullying is not only because of the dressing code of the student.

Bullies can pick up different aspects of the learners for bullying and not only the clothing. Some bullies are known to pick their victims based on their color, facial appearances, hair, or intellectual ability. Many learners are victims of bullying because of their race or stereotypes by their mates. School uniforms cannot solve the menace of bullying since various factors impact bullies.

The unity and image of the school are likely to improve with the use of school uniforms. However, pride in one’s school comes from being distinct from the other school. Hence, the level of bullying for learners from other schools can increase due to the competition that breeds rivalry.

A case study is that of New Zealand, where students from rival schools bullied a student. The student was a victim of stereotyping because of the difference in the uniform he wore from the other students. Uniforms must bring forward a sense of pride and equity. However, there is a sense of danger that comes with the tag.

Uniforms are said to improve the discipline among students. The school uniforms instill discipline among the student by teaching them about respecting the environment. The assumption of the power of school uniforms remains false to some extent. Research has shown that uniforms do not have a bearing on the student’s behaviors. A recent study showed that over 4,500 students who dawned on school uniforms did not exhibit fewer behavioral issues or complete school attendance.

Students feel motivated to practice indiscipline and misbehave when forced to wear school uniforms. Students end up in a heap of trouble when caught not wearing the school uniform correctly. The current crop of teenagers has a thing against authority. Therefore, they exhibit a form of retaliation against being told what to wear to school. The school uniforms create an opposite reaction. Instead of instilling discipline, it ends up creating a form of rebellion.

The case can trace back in 2009 where students at John A. Ferguson Senior High School formed a rebellion against school uniforms. The students decided not to wear uniforms. They chose their form of uniforms they wished to wear to school. Instead of uniforms forming a sense of respect for the school, it might lead to chaos. Another argument is that most parents end up overspending on the costs of school uniforms. Most parents have a considerable budget that goes to purchasing school uniforms.

Furthermore, at the end of the school curriculum, the parents also have to spend money purchasing casual dressing. Given the costly nature of purchasing of school uniforms, the students’ needs up to three pairs to wear through the school session. Low-income families have to incur the high cost of uniforms.

Parents have to purchase new school uniforms to wear when the children outgrow them. When casual dressing is allowed to school, the financial burden passed on to low-income families reduces. Furthermore, the students will feel more comfortable with their dressing. Freedom to express is a constitutional right enshrined under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

Making uniforms mandatory can be seen as a violation of these rights. The rights of the students feel limited when forcing them to wear the same piece of clothing throughout the school year. Most students use how they dress to make their identity among their peers. It is a way to identify with different social groups. The student’s characters shape through the ability to experiment with their individuality. School forms tend to violate the right to freedom of religion among the students as enshrined in the constitution.

Many students value their religious beliefs. It is what gives their lives a great sense of living and belonging. It is a source of inspiration to work hard in the school environment. Some religions express their faith through bracelets and headdresses. Most school uniforms hinder students from expressing their beliefs. Muslim girls want long skirts that cover their whole bodies since their religion requires respect for one’s body. The values which the students have grown up with should express their dress code.

While most school uniforms in the U.S enforce uniforms, there are many schools with dress codes. There is a close relation between dress codes and uniforms that comes without the benefits. School uniforms force the students to adopt a similar clothing style, while a dressing code gives freedom of choice for clothing for students.

Dress codes prevent students from feeling forced to wear a particular clothing style. It provides an appropriate manner in which the students will present themselves. Dress codes give the students leeway to express themselves. Students should have the right to choose what they wear. Students can later explore their creativity and find their identity.

Hence, students make it easier to develop their personality. Schools should work towards promoting diversity instead of equality. It should embrace the fact that each student is different and unique in their own way. The diversity helps the students develop meaningful relationships with each other. This school uniforms persuasive uniform essay shows that everyone has a given right to express themselves through their way of dressing.
