My concern in esus 2 was to improve my writing skills with the role of obtaining relevant citation and references to accord my sources of information. In regard to these skills it improved my performance in attempting my assignments for my learning skills. The area that i would like to put more focus so that i can pass Esus 3 is in finding the relevant sources in the library. Since i learnt to search sources and information in the library, it will be better for me to improve these skills to my best satisfaction. They are the key elements in obtaining relevant information that increases the chances of better performance. Finding relevant sources and information will build my pillar towards realising better performance in learning. Reflecting on the feedback of tutor for the first draft of extended research essay My tutor feedback on drafting essay was highly profitable to me. He laid down all the procedures and styles to use so as to come up with an effective essay at the end. The steps to follow includes highlighting texts that are relevant in answering of the assignment which helps in gathering the sense of it all, skimming what you have already highlighted to capture more information in your mind, marking passages and categorising them to gain knowledge on how they may support different points and lastly is to jot down what you think is the central concepts obtained in the analysis. In order to improve drafting procedure i had to prepare an action with these objectives that includes limiting focus to help in analysing at the main concept of the essay, limiting time to offer guideline in writing essay for a specific duration, marking points as you move on, notice and redirect and lastly is to cure the draft before you revise. In recognition to these objectives a good essay will be produced. Reflecting on any difficulties encountered writing extended research essay The main common difficulties i encountered in writing the extended research essay include signposting, commenting in the process, referencing, posing questions and obtainment of thesis statement. These were the main problems i encountered while writing the essay. These were expected problem since a writer should have the knowledge and skills to attempt all these areas easily as they are part of the courses being taught. In the process of referencing i had to go back and study the literature for its principles and practises, in signposting it was only applicable where i was asked to, posing of questions i had to present my argument in form of questions, commenting in the process was not needed and obtaining of the thesis statement should be clear and general to the point. Reflecting on the ability to write an effective essay introduction and conclusion In writing essay i should employ a good ability towards the introduction and the conclusion of the essay and more so the entire essay. As a writer i was able to comprehend all the points to satisfy the in depth of the topic to cover. In order to write an effective introduction, i must have the ability to find a starting statistic to illustrate the problem seriously, quote experts, common misperception should be mentioned, provide background literature information and also i should be able to use anecdotes or brief narratives that gives an example in the reasoning for the certain topic chosen of which i had. In writing conclusion the same ability i should also depict with the aim of recommending specific courses of action. I should have the ability to deal with the contemporary issues and to warn the readers of possible consequences, use expert opinion or quotation and also the ability to give worthwhile future research avenues for the topic. Type of speaking assessment I prefer doing The type of speaking assessment i would prefer to do is that of presentation in Esus 2. Presentation is a good process where a writer is supposed to reveal all their ideas to a multitude congregation. Presentation methods provide an atmosphere for me to be able to express all my visual and verbal literature information to a multitude that is there to listen. Presentation gives a maxability role where everyone can access the information. In presentation it provides a field where i as a writer i will be able to exercise my communication skills which is much important especially when delivering a positive learning experience. The presentation process will be characterized by the content of the presentation in the first place and the organization of the presentation. This gives me an ability to correspond to the learning practises in esus 2 compared to seminars in esus 1 and 3. Reflecting on the people i have met at Study Group Reflecting upon my study group, it has been unique in upon the background in the rate of ability in its members to determine the coverage of learning materials. My people in my study group are the best people to work together with for the kind effort they assist you with. My fellow students have helped me in classroom in realizing the best method in studying and preparing for examination. Also they have helped me to improve my communication skills, rectify my mistakes, shown me my weaknesses to improve on them and generates good questions during discussion for exam. Outside the classroom, my fellow students have nurtured me to be strong through cooperation with one another, offering moral support to me, understanding the self nature of all students one has to associate with and also to interact with each other freely to share ideas and information. Describing a particular activity that you did in your esus class this term In this term i participated in presenting an essay in my class. I did not pose the relevant skills in presentation yet i manage to present in front of my class. Upon gaining courage i stood before my classmates and presented my whole essay which i really enjoyed. In this activity i really enjoyed since my classmates were much interactive with me through asking questions while i presented. My weakness was gone during that day and i became courageous from that day. What i learnt from that day is that courageousness is the key to prosperity. One who is courageous can achieve all their goals without any hesitation. Another thing is that moral support from your fellow students is also needed; it can either be through offering advice or interaction in asking questions and encouragement. These are the attributes to a successful learner in support by fellow students. Describing an occasion i didn’t understand something in class There was an occasion where i did not understand the thesis statement of the essay i was entitled to carry out as my assignment in my class. It was ambiguous statement in which it made me to seek further assistance so that i could understand it better. In order to get more clarification from the tutor and assistance from my classmates and had to raise my hand and ask a question for more clarification from the tutor. The tutor gave back the question to the class so that any student with information has to reveal it to the class. It was a discussion that engaged the whole class where possible attributes were defined. At the end there was a clear role on what to follow to exercise fully on the thesis of the statement of the essay. It was an eye opener to ask question whenever you do not understand any concept. How completing learning journal helped me progress over the 3 terms Completing these learning journals has helped me to be eloquent in both communication and writing skills. Communication skills have been the key role to realize all the learning concepts a student is entitled to gain at. In writing skills i was able to poses all the required techniques that helped me nurture into good and worthwhile writing concepts. The learning journals has made me more aware of the things that i need to improve including research strategy that i have to adopt which will impact positively on the topics i have to write upon. I have acquired strengths that have encouraged me in writing through developing creativity, logical progression, organization, passion for writing work and provision of honest work. Learning journal has helped me to take these step and progress effectively over the three terms. How I think what i have learnt at Study Group will benefit me at my future university What i have learnt at the study group am sure it will help me a lot in my university since i have participated fully in communication and writing skills. The study group has enabled me obtain all the characters am supposed to have to be an effective writer and also to give a relevant speech from my acquired communication skills i gained for writing essays. Study groups have been the best in all sectors through provision of moral support in rectifying my mistakes, showing me my weaknesses in order to improve and generating good ideas during discussion. Also study groups have nurtured me to cooperation with one another, offer moral support, and understand the self nature of all students that I have to associate with and also to interact freely with each other in sharing ideas and information. Describing an aspect of British life/culture which is different from my own The British culture that i have noted is that they still practise the protocol in following when they are to introduce people from one another including classes and in the business field too. This is more than the formal social situation that is being followed in British. This is often used to distinguish the people classes within in which the y co-host the holding of the long time standing traditions being practised. People are not supposed to be subjected to any distinguishable classes according to my societal norm. Therefore there is a change in societal practises between my society and the practises in the British society. Also while introducing a person in the British society one has to start introducing the person you know better compared to the other one in which it is applicable to both my society and the British society. Anything about the way i have studied and would have to change at my future University What i have learnt and i would like it to be changed in the future in university is the process of communication and writing skills. The communication system should be changed so as all the learning practises are to be carried upon at a lower stage of education. This will provide a pillar leading to efficient in learning both the communication and writing skills. Writing skills should also be developed and sensitized the importance of having better and high quality essay that a student can produce. Learning the principles behind the establishment of writing skills will be a good strategy to be implemented in the university.
