OCCAP (Onondaga Community College Academic Partnership) Bishop Grimes Junior/Senior High School’ goal of project is to launch a partnership with Onondaga Community College, and get funding source from Onondaga County Budget. Bishop Grimes will launch a precollege program in order to satisfy the needs of its students. As a result, this milestone will make the Onondaga Community College have more students. Based on the rate of college attendance, 100% of Bishop Grimes students make it to college, but about 20% of students decide on going to Onondaga Community College, even if they had pre-college program with Syracuse University or Le Moyne College. Should Bishop Grimes students provide more opportunities to study in Onondaga Community College, both sides would win simply because the needs of either sides will have been satisfied. Bishop Grimes can offer a challenge to Onondaga Community College with similar programs as those of SUPA or Le Moyne Scholars Programs. This is because it makes academic conditions and provides more chances than before to its students. It is highly recommended for high school students to take more advantages by incorporating these partnership programs. This project is planned in such a way that Bishop Grimes launches the Onondaga Community College pre-college program by getting funding source from Onondaga County, and it will be called as OCCAP (Onondaga Community College Academic Partnership). Bishop Grimes Junior/Senior High School was established in 1966 as a private Roman Catholic High School. It is located in 6653 Kirkville Road, East Syracuse, NY 13057, which is in Onondaga County. The school is serving 356 students who are accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and the New York State Board of Regents. Its website is http://www.bishopgrimes.org. Bishop Grimes got named after the second Bishop of Syracuse, John Grimes. The school’s staff was the Marist Fathers, priests from the Syracuse Diocese, and the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Carondelet as well as the lay teachers. It was built to educate grades 9-12, but now Bishop Grimes accept grades 7 and 8. Its first principal was Rev. In the past 17 years, 100% of Bishop Grimes students were accepted into institutions of higher education where they participated in many activities. For instance, more than 75% of the students are in interscholastic athletics, some manage to earn credits through Syracuse University which is called Project Advanced, and LeMoyne College. The students also collectively completed 9,000 hours of community service last year. To fulfill Bishop Grimes academic goals, students have to take pre-College programs. As a private school, all of Bishop Grimes grade 12 students went to college, and earned $ 3.1 million in college scholarship in 2014. However, following the data in 2014, 12 students went to Onondaga Community College out of 53 students. Only 2 students decided to go Syracuse University. Following that college attendance rate and college scholarships, Bishop Grimes should have partnership with Onondaga Community College because it offers the college more benefits. SUPA or Le Moyne Program is offered to grade 11 or grade 12 students who already achieved good grades. However, there are still students who cannot have a chance to take pre-college programs. If the project, OCCAP (Onondaga Community College Academic Partnership) is launched, many students can get more knowledge of college life and can have more choices to take college courses. There is certainty that many of Bishop Grime’s students are willing to take OCCAP (Onondaga Community College Academic Partnership) if they can take it at Bishop Grimes. Many of Bishop Grimes students go to Onondaga Community College after they graduate. Also, when Bishop Grime launches this project, it can prove to parents or other players that Bishop Grimes offers to provide more opportunities to experience college courses before students decide attending colleges as a duty of a private high school. Expecting to have more pre-high school students will apply to Bishop Grimes because of OCCAP (Onondaga Community College Academic Partnership) program. Onondaga Community College would be great to launch the OCCAP (Onondaga Community College Academic Partnership) program. This program is like SUPA or Le Moyne Programs so it provides more opportunities to Bishop Grime students to think about attending Onondaga Community College. If many of Bishop Grime students go to Onondaga Community College, it will have a positive effect on Onondaga Community College because they can have more qualified local students as well as having more tuition income. Bishop Grimes students can think of more positively to attend Onondaga Community College through taking college program. The Onondaga College Credit Now program also offers high school students to gain college credits. Selected courses by Onondaga Community College will be take at their high school and it will be the great start line of earning college credits without paying extra tuitions. The courses are delivered at their high schools at part of their normal school days, and will be taught by qualified high school teachers. The courses that students taken can be transfer to many other colleges and universities across New York State and throughout the country. In the Onondaga Community College there are appropriations associated with it and annual bugget lists and revenues. When the list is submitted for consideration, normally to the County Legislature, it gets published as “Tentative Annual” Budget of the Community College, and it is required to use a code of the County Administration.
