As much as the current admission policy provides a greater choice of schools admission to the parents and pupils, a lot has to be done in order to bring equality in the admission process of pupils to different schools. Moreover, it is also significant to purport that improving educational standards through policies, such as the expansion of the academic program has a massive impact and plays a major role in the ultimate performance and development of students. While free schools within the country are contributing towards providing greater choices to parents due to their attributes of accessibility and affordability, at the same time, the current educational policy is promoting academies’ expansion as a means to promote rigorous and competitive learning in the UK society.

All these issues create questions regarding the role of educational policy related to school choice and its positive or negative impact on the education sector of the UK. In this regard, this argumentative paper will look at the development of school choice and its relevance with quasi-market reforms in state education. Besides, the paper will argue over school admission policies, as well as the inequality that exists in the choice of available schools in the sector. Furthermore, the paper will look at the expansion of academies and its impact on parents making school choices.

The paper will also bring under lens the notion of free schools and their different aspects followed by a few conclusive recommendations based on the arguments and analysis of literature.School choice is merely not a new term in the education system; it has been part of the English education system since 1988 when the English Reform Act (Burgess, Propper, and Wilson, 2004) was introduced in the country. However, why school choice is important offers various justifications. instance, experts argue that the right to exercise personal choice has always been an essential feature of the UK society whether it is education or healthcare; the policymakers believe that the right to choose a school is a way of minimizing oppression and maintaining balance in the distribution of social privileges, and most importantly, power in the society.
