Reasons for Choosing W.P Carey Essay 1: Reasons for choosing W.P Carey I have chosen to apply to W.P Carey MS-Finance program due to its reputation of teaching students the current analytical and quantitative techniques that are essential for effective decision making in the finance industry. I believe the program will prepare me effectively for the complex and globalized financial world. The program integrates various disciplines and is aligned with the current financial theories and quantitative models thus ensuring students gain a competitive edge in the job market. W.P Carey Ms-Finance Program will enable me develop strong capabilities that will enable me work anywhere in the world due to its unique international content, case studies and diverse student population that enables one appreciate different cultures. The program will enable me build extensive industry knowledge and use applied research due to its strong linkages with reputable financial institutions, employers and alumni network that is essential in career growth and advancement. I believe this is the best time for applying for my Masters of Science in Finance Program at your University since I am interested in furthering my education at the highest graduate level. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree from Jacksonville State University, majoring in Computer Information Systems and a minor in Business Administration. I am aware that the ever-changing and competitive global financial industry requires individuals to attain advanced degree in finance and understand latest information systems in order to apply the latest analytical and financial engineering frameworks in making complex investment decisions that maximize the shareholder wealth and safeguard the integrity of financial markets. I believe this is the best time to undertake the program since I have adequate time to attend to classes, undertake my assignments and participate in research in order to fulfill all the requirements of the program successfully and within the stipulated deadlines. Essay 2: Academic and professional experiences and how these experiences contribute to my success and value in the program My academic accomplishments and professional experiences will immensely contribute to my success and value in this program. I have completed a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Computer information systems. I undertook the course as an exchange program in Jacksonville State University. I believe my major in Computer information systems will be essential in understanding financial information systems and decision making models since the course introduced me to applied mathematics and quantitative models that are also applicable in finance courses. The course enabled me develop abstract thinking, analytical and computational skills that are essential in financial analysis and modeling. My minor in business administration will be essential for the success in the program since I am aware of the external and internal business environment that affect the finance industry, the current dynamics in the financial markets and institutions and managerial aspects of the finance industry. My minor in business administration enabled me gain excellent administrative and leadership skills that will be valuable in this program. For instance, I have good time management skills, analytical and team building skills that I believe will be very helpful during my courses in this program. My work experience will be beneficial to this program since I have attended three internships during my exchange program and gained substantial skills in computer applications, accounting, administration, communication and finance. In June 2011, I undertook my first internship at Mattelicom (Rabat, Morocco) where I gained practical skills in database management, administration and problem-solving skills in a computerized environment. In May 2012, I did a second internship at SAGAR Inc (Gadsden) where in coordinated employee schedules and performed various financial duties. The third internship was undertaken at ROMAS Inc (Jacksonville, Alabama) between January to August in 2013 where I performed the duties of financial office paper work assistant. Later in the year I worked as a Student Worker between August until December 2013 where I gained valuable administrative and accounting experience. Currently, I am employed at Four Seasons Resort where I am tasked with assisting callers and ensuring efficient communication in the resort. I have knowledge of programming software packages such as SQL, C++, Python, CSS and Java and various internet applications. I have learnt how to live and interact with people from all walks of life since I lived in a cultural exchange house where I interacted with people from more than 40 countries across the world. I have learnt how to appreciate cultural diversity and different perspectives without being judgmental or demonstrating biasness. I am fluent in English, French and Arabic and my interpersonal skills are essential in teamwork and solving problems within teams. Essay 3: Additional information for the Admissions Committee My national origin is Morroco and I can speak and write fluently in English, French and Arabic languages. Basic education in Morocco is compulsory and free and the country has high literacy rates compared to other third world countries across the world. The national languages of Morocco are Arabic and French since the country was colonized by French and Spain. I was a Physics Major in High School and I graduated with Honors and various mathematics classes contributed to my highest score at the entire University. However, I have been able to learn English without going through an English Language Institute due to my ability to accept and adapt to new environment, learn through experience and practice what I have learned from others. I am self-motivated, open-minded and curious individual who is driven by the desire to make a meaningful contribution to the welfare of the society through use of knowledge, skills and abilities acquired during my studies. I have excellent communication and interpersonal skills that enable me initiate conversations and interact well with others. I have excellent analytical, problem-solving and computational skills that will be essential in my studies. Accordingly, I am detail oriented and I able capable of considering various alternatives in decision-making. During my free time, I prefer volunteering in community and charitable activities. I was the Secretary of Model Arab League (MAL) Club at Jacksonville State University (2010) and a member of the International House Program (2010-2012). I also undertook a Psychological first Aid certificate course from American Red Cross in April 2010 and participated in Environmental Committee of the MAL, Converse University, South Carolina in 2010. Essay 4: Overview of quantitative coursework in my undergraduate program and relevant work experience Introduction I have successfully completed several quantitative courses in my undergraduate program that are relevant to this program. The Bachelor of Science in Computer information systems involved various economic, applied mathematics, statistics, physics, finance and engineering quantitative models and coursework that will be very useful in my Ms-Finance program. Some of the courses that I undertook that are related to this program include microeconomics, macroeconomics, managerial and financial accounting, risk management, information and database systems and applied probability. My undergraduate course introduced me to microeconomic and macroeconomic framework that is useful in financial courses such as calculation of the rate of economic growth, the relationship between money supply and interest rates, projection of unemployment rate and calculation of the net present value of financial assets. During my undergraduate program, I learned various computation and manipulative skills in quantitative topics such as sets, graphs, decision trees, algebra and symbolic logic. The quantitative coursework also entailed advanced quantitative techniques such as applied probability and statistical modeling such as hypothesis testing, discrete and continuous probability distribution testing, variance analysis, budgeting techniques, regression analysis, monte carlo simulation, game theory, and sensitivity analysis. Accordingly, the quantitative coursework involved database systems and concepts in data structures, data communication and networks, information system security and integrity, e-commerce and financial decision support systems. Conclusion I am very competent in quantitative courses as demonstrated by the GPA of 4.0 and various courses that I have undertaken during my undergraduate program.
