This report covers what I have gained from my educational journey. It outlines the skills that I have developed and how I will apply them in my career development. It also outlines the various ways that I will apply to maintain a lifelong learning career. My educational journey has been so far successful because of the desire to be the best in all courses. I have learnt more about technology and I can say that I have improved on that front, since commencing the course. I have also acquired strong computer skills, and this has been a remarkable development in my career. In view of this, I have not only achieved computer literacy but also proficiency. Since I will be operating in a department that requires exceptional technological skills, the ones I have developed and honed will come in handy in improving my career. I have been able to develop good management skills through learning and practice. In order to prepare well for exams, I have been utilizing my management skills by managing my preparation time appropriately. I have been utilizing my resources effectively so that I do not experience shortages before I accomplish my targeted tasks. The value for higher education Education is regarded as the key to success. In the today world, many people are investing in education. The more people are getting educated, the higher the chances of securing a good employment. I have a passion for education and enjoy reading and learning new things as days pass by. This is due to the fact knowledge is vital in improving my reasoning and making me a better person. I finished high school and due to the good grades I had, I got a scholarship from the University of North Alabama. I was overjoyed with such a nice opportunity and was very thankful to God. Unfortunately, I could not join the university due to financial reasons. My step mother did not have enough resources to enable me realise my dreams. All through my educational journey, I have always strived to be the best and worked day and night in order to do well in my exams. After missing the opportunity to join the university, I continued with my education with GI Bill. After completing the courses, I returned home and joined the Calhoun Community College. Unfortunately, I could not afford enough cash for my fees and I, therefore, decided to join military fulltime. Before I could be deployed I became pregnant and my plans changed from then. I had to look for employment so that I could feed my daughter; luckily, I secured one with Chiptec LLC. I was tired being moved from department to department, hence decided to quit the job and started cleaning houses. After my daughter had finished high school and went to college, I went back to college to try and realize my dream. While at the college, I learned a lot and I gained more skills that have been instrumental in shaping my career. Some of the things I learnt include hard work, dedication, good work ethics and respect for others. All these factors were vital in shaping and improving me, both at a personal and at a professional level. In the year 2012, I enrolled at ASU to pursue a degree in logistics and supply chain management. In campus, I have learned a lot from my lecturers, friends and classmates. Their support has been instrumental in my growth while at campus. We have been working together so that we can professionally grow and shape our career in the best direction. I have also developed exceptional skills and improved in some that have boosted my personal and professional growth. After all those years outside education, my experience in ASU has been phenomenal and enabled me re-gain my passion for education. Through the resources that are availed in the university, peers and lecturers, I have developed and strengthened various skills as discussed below. Skills In my educational journey, I have come across different theories and through them I am now fully aware of how to form effective teams, how to appoint team roles and strategies to get the best out of team members. I have been given opportunities to guide course work teams while at high school and I have been successful in motivating and driving my team members to the team’s success. There is no single time that I can recall having failed to facilitate my team’s success. In fact, all the team I led were also outstanding among other teams and this made it easy for me to have team members whenever our lecturers asked us to form teams that would be allocated specific assignments. Therefore, I am glad to say that I have been able to develop and strengthen exceptional teamwork skills, from learning and application, all along my educational journey. My major is Logistics and supply chain, which focuses on technology. Therefore, I have learnt more about technology and I am confident that I have improved on my technological skills since commencing the course. My computer skills are phenomenal due to the familiarity I have with the machine. I can stand proud and say that I am a computer expert not only literate. I can use all computer programs exceptionally well and I am also in a capacity to make small computer repairs where necessary. I have been utilizing my computer skills to assists fellow classmates to improve on their own computer skills and this has enabled me reinforce my technological skills further. I have been able to develop good communication skills in my educational, journey through learning. Communication lessons and seminars have been very beneficial to me and they have really contributed towards my ability to communicate in a moral and professional manner. I have also done individual assignments to improve my communication skills by writing essays from time to time, reading a variety of story books and interacting with students from different religious and cultural backgrounds. This has enabled me understand the best way to communicate with different people in order to maintain good relationships with them. Throughout my educational journey, I have been able to develop exceptional planning and organizing skills. Through my knowledge and experience, I have been able to plan my daily tasks in the order of priority and ensure that I work within my plan. I have been using a timetable to do my personal readings so that I can prepare well for exams and this has handsomely paid. In each and every semester, I have been setting targets that I desire to achieve, come the end of the semester. After setting the goals, I have been developing an exceptional plan that would enable me realize the set targets within the specified time and this has enabled me strengthen my planning and organizing skills. The management lessons that I have gone through in my educational journey have been very instrumental in the development of my management skills. I have been able to develop good management skills through learning and practice. In order to prepare well for exams, I have been utilizing my management skills by managing my preparation time appropriately. I have been utilizing my resources effectively so that I do not experience shortages before I accomplish my targeted tasks. Having the opportunity to lead teams from time to time has been of great significance in the development of my management skills. I have been able to manage all teams effectively and guided them in the right direction viable for the achievement of team goals and objectives. I have also strengthened my management skills by ensuring that team resources are effectively utilized by all team members so that shortages are not experienced as a result of wastage of resources. Opportunities provided by higher education Knowledge is gained through education. As citizens grow, they pass through different levels of educational institutions (Maurice, 2003). According to the grades they acquire, they progress to the next educational level. At the higher education level, learners get the opportunity to acquire knowledge as they are taught so many things that were not taught at the lower educational levels. The knowledge that the learners acquire are very instrumental in their development at a personal and professional level. The learners get an opportunity to solve problems in a rational manner due to the knowledge gained at this level; they are also able to make exceptional decisions that can enable them prosper in their endeavors. Careers are developed in the higher education level. At this level, citizens get an opportunity to select the career that they are willing to venture into. Upon selecting their preferred careers, the learners are taught the basics of the careers they have selected at their first years, and with time they are taught at a more advanced levels. The higher education institutions play a significant role in organizing internships for their students so that they can put their career into practice (Thomas, 2004). Career development is vital to all citizens as it enables them secure employment in organisations that they are needed. Once employed, they start earning good income so that they can live good lifestyles. More so, learners get an opportunity to be empowered at the higher education level. The higher education institutions have exceptional resources that are very vital in the empowerment of learners (Terry, 2002). The gymnasiums, sporting facilities, career development facilities, technological facilities, libraries among other resources play a significant role in the empowerment of citizens. In these institutions, equality is given first priority and this enables both male and female citizens to have equal opportunities for empowerment. Once learners are empowered, they become important people in the society, while some of them make exceptional leaders who contribute successfully to the development of the state. Empowered citizens, through the higher education level, acquire exceptional decision-making skills that enable them vote wisely for leaders who have agendas that can drive the state forward, for example by improving the living standards of the citizens. The management courses that I have gone through in my educational journey have been very is instrumental in the development of my management skills. I have been able to develop good management skills through learning and practice. In order to prepare well for exams in my educational journey, I have been utilizing my management skills by managing my preparation time appropriately. Good communication enables a person to establish good relationships with other people as they interact and, therefore, it is very important to gain exceptional communication skills. I have gained good communication skills through the communication courses that I have come across in educational journey. Communication lessons and seminars have been very beneficial to me, as this has improved my ability to communicate in a moral and professional manner. I have also done individual assignments to improve my communication skills, for example by regularly writing essays, reading a variety of story books and interacting with students from different religious and cultural backgrounds. Therefore, I encourage other people to embark on this path so that they can express their ideas in the best way possible and the knowledge gained will also enable them have good ideas for their career and state development. Lifelong education I have a passion for education. I love going an extra mile just to gain knowledge. This means that I will maintain a lifelong learning attitude because of the passion I have for knowledge. Most scholars argue that education is a continuous process and there is no end when it comes to learning. Bearing this in mind, I will keep on accessing any educational opportunity that I come across so as to develop exceptional skills and knowledge that will shape me into a better person in my country and in the world at large. I will maintain my lifelong learning attitude by participating in various educational seminars that I think might be of great significance for my development. Reading newspapers, magazines, website articles and various books that are related to my career or are inspirational will assist me in maintain a lifelong learning attitude. In all business organisations in the today world, there exists career development section that offer employees opportunities to keep on improving their skills and knowledge. By taking advantages of the training opportunities that will be offered by my employer, I will get the opportunity to maintain a lifelong learning attitude. Conclusion I have invested heavily on my education in terms of time, commitment and desire to gain more and more knowledge. I have been working day and night just to see that I improve on a daily basis in terms of m knowledge capacity.
