There are various management styles that are seemingly effective in different contexts or in different working environments. For example, it has widely been documented that the democratic leadership style is more effective as compared to the autocratic leadership style (Appel, 2003). However, as noted above, a research study conducted on a few selected brewing companies in Nigeria showed that the employees were more responsive to the autocratic management style, which meant that the use of a democratic leadership style cannot be effective in these selected brewing companies (Abiodun, 2013).

For example, it has widely been documented that the democratic leadership style is more effective as compared to the autocratic leadership style. However, it is widely known that the nature of the management style in the armed forces is usually autocratic, which means that the use of a democratic leadership style cannot be effective in such a sector. Therefore, there is a need to conduct this present research study in order to establish which management styles work best in the education sector in the Western region.

The research used a sample study of 56 participants, 50 were school teachers drawn from different learning institutions within the Western education sector while 6 were school managers from the same region. The questionnaire was the only data collection tool that was ap[plied in this study. This study is important to help the education sector in the Western Region and other stakeholders to know how to improve the relationship between managers and their employees through the use of appropriate management styles in order to boost their performance and create a good working environment through well catered for employees' needs.
