As a biomedical science student, it is important for me to learn how to conduct proper research projects so as to help in the further advancement of the field. The study of biomedical science has served to help me develop basic critical thinking and analysis skills in addition to also helping me improve my research ability. My particular research project management skills will stand to greatly benefit from added expertise by my undertaking to also study project and enterprise management at the graduate level. I would like to study project and enterprise management at the University College London at the university because as the college points out, it has carefully designed the course to ensure that it is able to help in equipping all the students with a relatively advanced understanding of critical management thinking as relates to the management of projects and enterprises. It also promises to provide students with a very sound appreciation of exactly how projects should best be carefully developed, defined and delivered. In addition to addressing these needs, I consider UCL to be one of the best colleges in the world as a result of its long history of successfully and constantly churning out some of the best talent in the business and science worlds. The college has also been able to build a global reputation as being one of the best teaching and research facilities in the world and in this respect, I consider it to be best suited for helping me gain the much needed research and management skills in respect to the management of the various biomedical scientific research projects that I will be conducting in my chosen field of profession. I am particularly attracted to my chosen program as a result of the diverse benefits that a background in project and enterprise management will help bring to my future research works as well as my employing organization in general. With project and enterprise management essentially being a view of all the organizational project management activities as well as exactly how these activities eventually serve to contribute towards the success of the given organization or company, knowledge in project and enterprise management will help me in effectively linking the organization’s mission, vision, objectives, strategies and goals in an effective hierarchal manner so as to ensure that I am able to commit my allocated resources to the right resources at the right time. Often organizations will find that the wrong projects that are currently being pursued primarily as a result of a laid down proper criteria to be used for the selection of projects. Often enough projects that have been marked as having low priority can potentially make a greater contribution to an organization’s success as compared to its currently ongoing projects. Knowledge in project and enterprise management will ensure that I am able to help my organization ensure that all its various biomedical science research projects are assigned the correct priority for the available organizational resources and timely decisions are made in regards to the particular projects so as to ensure that they are successfully able to contribute to the organization’s success. In addition to this, I will also be able to ensure that the organization implements the appropriate procedures and policies supporting its project and enterprise management program activities so as to help in encouraging the best allocation of the available critical resources. The proper application of project and enterprise management will also help me ensure that the organization is able to make gains in its productivity by eliminating all the unnecessary work. The elimination or reduction of projects that happen to have negative or little payoff can also be seen to be a key potential saving area of the organization. The diversion of these saved resources to the identified highly prioritized projects will also have the added benefit of ensuring that the organization is able to improve its early delivery of project products. My academic and professional background will be of great aid in helping me to meet the challenges and demands of this program as by undertaking to study Project and Enterprise Management at the graduate level at UCL, I will be equipped with crucial knowledge and skills to be able to conduct proper biomedical science research projects in my working life that could potentially drastically alter the field and provide ingenious solutions to some of the more pertinent biomedical health issues of our lives today. To further advance and improve my skill set as pertains to my future career as a biomedical scientist, I am currently engaged in taking a project design module in pharmacology as my final year project. Studying project and enterprise management will prove to be particularly invaluable as it will serve to complement my current studies in pharmacology project design.
