Good communication skills are essential for early childhood educators". Introduction Communication can be defined as the way used by an individual toconvey a message to another person. It is of utmost importance for any individual to be a good communicator or have the capability to communicate in an effective fashion. Therefore, it is pretty safe to say that communication is one of the most important elements, if not the most important one in the developmental process of a child. Communication, however, should not be considered in terms of verbal and non verbal communication. Since birth a child is taught various means of communication techniques. Various connections are usually formed during the young age of a child. The connections or effective communication play a major role in the development of the life of a child and make it adaptable and flexible in nature. A child looks to capture all the activities that occur around him or her (Lefevre, 2010). Therefore, it is extremely important for the children at this age to have a very good educator. This would provide a better understanding of the perspective of the children. The mind of the kids at the early stage tries to cope up with a world which is seemingly strange to him or her. Therefore, communication happens to be the only way that can help the educator of the children to understand the thought process of the children. This provides an opportunity for the educator to view the world through the eyes of the children and thus understand the challenges faced by the kids. Therefore, it is extremely important for the educators of the kids to have an adequate communication level as ineffective communication can also provide the educator a totally wrong perception of the knowledge and understanding level of the child. Effective communication skills help the educator to understand the logic faced by the children in terms of various surrounding issues (Richman, 2000). The significance of communication for early child educator Good communication initiates a smooth flow of information from one medium to the other. This, actually, makes sure that the educator is easily understandable by the children. This makes the educator appealing to kids also, and in this way, the attention levels of the children increase. The morale of the children becomes high, and such an atmosphere leads to a bunch of highly motivated and participative kids who would, most importantly, be enjoying the lessons. The communication skills of the educator help the educator to identify the cultural background of the kids, which makes the distribution of knowledge a lot easier. Also, this helps the educator to avoid ambiguity while dealing with kids at a very early age (Arnold, 2005). In communication development, these communication skills are taught. These skills help the educators to identify and rectify the weak areas. Effective skills of the educators in communication process help them to understand the cultural background of the children (Prior & Gerard, 2007). It is important for the educators to be assertive. It will help them to control the children under the authority of that educator. It is possible through the appropriate use of several communication forms. It is necessary to utilize facial expressions and gestures in the communication process. It is evident from several research works that the deficient educators in terms of communication skills can easily get bad-tempered as they can become the victims of communication breakdown. Communication is an important skill. It is important for an individual to be a good listener. Effective speaking and listening both are considered as the effective communication skills. Listening is an important part of the communication just like speaking. It makes the learning process much more interesting. Participation and involvement in a communication process help to increase the communication skills of a child. Through effective listening process an educator can gauge and know their effectiveness of teaching. Effective listening process also helps the educators to understand the views of children. Silence is also an effective communication tool. It poses several benefits in the communication process. Children in the classrooms automatically respond to silence. Silence can be used in order to prompt a particular answer. Communication helps an educator to implement psychology in the approach of teaching. It is beneficial for the children in the long run. A tactile approach can help to disseminate the imperative knowledge. This tactile approach includes giving pats on the back and a handshake. There are other psychological approaches that can be implemented such as positive and negative reward systems. A good communication can improve the self-confidence level of the educators. Therefore, the educators can easily convey their knowledge. It can help the educators in their professional life. Good communication skills increase the knowledge level of the educators. It helps them to provide extra information to the students (Lillemyr, 2009). A good communicator always knows when the topic or subject matter will become complex. Therefore, the effective communication skills will help them to adjust to their teaching process. Good communication skills help an educator to take a positive approach towards the process of education. It is important for an educator to make the children understand each and every aspect of a particular subject. Therefore, it is necessary for the educator to choose a right teaching approach so that the students can understand the subject effectively. It helps to make the knowledge straightforward and less cumbersome. Organized education process is another important objective of an effective communication process. Organized education process helps an educator to establish a good relationship with other individuals (Grotewell & Burton, 2008). An educator with effective writing skills can effectively manage the work force. Effective writing skill can be referred to as one of the most important communication skills. Effective writing records can aid an educator. An effective approach by the educators will help the students to clear their concepts. An effective communication process will help an educator to become a lot more organized in his or her future career. Effective education is necessary for the students in order to develop their career. It is the responsibility of the educators to take an appropriate approach in order to educate the children. Conclusion To conclude, it can be said the young age of the children actually sets the tone for the kids for the rest of their lives, and the lessons learned during this young age may actually be a decisive factor relying on which they will construct their future. Therefore, it is extremely important for the children to have an educator with excellent communications skills. An educator with excellent communication skills would be able to understand the thought process and the mindset of the children and provide guidance to them accordingly. On the other hand, an educator having less than effective communication may fail to understand the ever curious mindset of the kids. However, even after considering all the merits of communication and the importance of it, one still cannot push away utilization of other skills also. References Arnold, M. (2005).
