Personal planning, reflection and teamwork
Many people find it irrelevant to plan their future because they think there is not time for that since change comes so rapidly to an extent that planning would be obsolete even they could implement their plan anyway (Danielson, 2007). Well, in this statement, there is some sense however planning is very beneficial to everybody’s life. Planning has the ability to help you develop a future vision, guide your future career, help perceive future opportunities, and assist in building a balanced life. Personal planning is a development or creation of an action plan that bases on awareness, goal setting, reflection, and values. Personal planning involves personal development in the context bound by relationship, education, self-improvement, and career among others (Bird, 2011). In this paper, I will seek to evaluate personal planning, reflection, and teamwork on the bases of development.
Personal planning
Personal planning otherwise known as individual planning comprises of statements set forth by an individual including the individual’s competences, steps, stages indicating the process of realizing the set plan, and aspirations (Dodd, 2004). It may also include a statement indicating one’s lifestyle priorities and career, an analysis of risks and opportunities, career positioning, and alternative plans commonly known as plan B as well as curriculum vitae. In order to have a personal plan, you must first understand its implications in your future (Moon, 2010). For a long time, the subject of strategic planning remained a controversial aspect in management literature. The importance of personal planning, on one end, is the reason as to why you choose to have a plan.
To begin with, personal planning defines the future of an individual, organization, and any other entity that needs personal planning as a considerable stratagem towards a profitable future (David, Cresses, & Docherty, 2006). Personal planning brings in difference and its elements might include better consistency, higher quality, more productivity, and so forth. Failure to have a personal plan set in place makes an individual or a business find little time to create a new method of conducting daily duties (Quant, 2006). When people leave their personal plans to their own devices, daily duties tend to gain all the attention leaving the strategic projects unattended. Personal planning creates fundamental opportunities that bring reality to what an individual needs in order to get the set goals achieved (Mark, 2011). It keeps reality at the front of your mind such that, it forces the planner to declare the means to employ while questing for ways of achieving the set commitments.
Since no body knows how a plan might turn out in the future, personal planning gives a reflection of commitment. However, for a person to ensure there is no compromise of the plans there must be the element of accountability (Kamble, 2007). A tight accountable plan leads to better performance. Having an accounted plan gives a reflection of the kind of trouble that could be looming. This provides a basis of enacting plan B. As elaborated, personal planning acts as a quintessential instrument that helps prepare for a situation when you might need assistance managing your personal affairs. It gives room for one to stay in control of his or her future (Ikeda, Ashley, & Chan, 2006). Additionally, it can make an individual’s future favorable and easier for friends and families since it can give them the authority to undertake the planner’s wishes.
Personal planning comprises of all areas involved in life. They include personal care, financial affairs, legal affairs, and health care among other areas (Sorbero & Rand Corporation, 2006). To achieve a well organized personal planning, a planner requires a time plan, which guides in planning. In most cases, professional planners press for pragmatic personal planning of how a person wishes his or her heirs or loved ones will share property and other materials upon death (West, 2012). Personal planning does not only help avoid wrangles and disputes in the family, but also sets a collaborative strategy regarding division of property among the required beneficiaries.
Reflection
Reflection is yet another fundamental aspect in life and continues to be resourceful in terms of transforming a person’s recurrent experiences. Reflection refers to that active process where a person witnesses his or her own experience with the aim of taking a closer look at it, at times aimed at directing attention to it briefly, but in most cases to explore it within a greater margin (Rubenfeld & Schaffer, 2010). This can take place in the midst of an activity or within the activity itself. They main role of reflection is to learn how to take a particular perspective on personal experiences and actions. In simple terms, reflection requires an individual to examine that particular action or experience instead of just living in it (Barbara & Verbrugge, 2011).
Documented evidence recons that, when a person develops an ability to explore and express curiosity concerning his or her own actions and experiences, he or she opens up the possibilities aimed at purposeful learning suddenly (Hallman & Rosenbloom, 2003). This derivate is not only from experts and learning materials, but also from our own lives and work. This is the cognitive purpose of reflection. It paves way for the possibility of learning via actions and experiences, whether the experience or action is of a success, disaster, project, relationship, meeting, and any other even after, during, or before its occurrence (Backblock & Kruger, 2011). Reflective learning involves incorporating reflection while viewing the explicit goal of producing that act of learning out of the procedure (Craig, 2007). Reflective learning is the pivotal instrument that derives knowledge created via the experience of taking part in communal work.
Teamwork
With reference to New World Dictionary, Webster defines teamwork as a combined or mutual action by a cluster, faction, group, or collection of people whereby, every individual subordinates his or her personal opinions and interests to the unanimity and agreement of the cluster (Gitman, Joehnk, & Billingsley, 2010). This does not necessarily imply that the person is vital no more; nevertheless, it does indicate that efficient and effective teamwork goes beyond personal accomplishments. The most effective and efficient teamwork comes about at times when all persons involved harmonize each individual’s work and contributions towards a common objective. Today, teamwork is an important part of our lives and our culture of working (Warner & Leonard, 2011). As such, many businesses are looking at teamwork skills during evaluation of an individual for a job opportunity.
In conclusion, teamwork leads to sufficient production since it provides for complex multiple skills that better approaches towards achieving goals. Teamwork creates an environment that develops an individual’s ability to intermingle and share experiences, skills, and abilities as well as learn and acquire more or different techniques useful for building group exercise (Lundine, Smith, & Seip, 2006). Research puts across that, in learning, teamwork enables students to learn best since the given tasks involve social interactions amongst learners. With that vein, it is agreeable that personal planning, reflection, and teamwork are aspects of paramount importance to our development of a brighter future (Rattiner, 2009). They all aid at responsible corporation, mutual understanding, and collaborative working which are fundamental variables of a well-organized living.
