Download file to see previous pages In a research that was conducted by the London School of Economics in 2005 – 2006, it has been seen that almost 61.6% of the students worked after graduation (LSE, 2008). According to Little (2007), the link between high education and employment is very high.

“Employability is a set of achievements – skills, understandings, and personal attributes – that make graduates more likely to gain employment and be successful in their chosen occupations, which benefits themselves, the workforce, the community, and the economy” (Little, 2007)

The research highlighted the strong points that are developed by students and the percentage of skills that are developed post-high education programs. The table below provides the various percentages.

It has been noted that the education gained fro universities, has been designed to provide the students with knowledge related to jobs and competences (Brennan, et.al., 1996). Higher education and graduations help a student gain the basis of the knowledge required for any job. Also, almost every university provides assistance to students for the types of jobs that can be applied after graduating from university. According to Brown (et.al.2002, p 19), education is the basis for every job and for the skills that are related to the job. It is also noted that the employers look for the basic skill set, soft skills, etc, which are normally developed better during higher education. Hence it is clear that skills and academic programs are interrelated and the future job-related skills are included in all the academic programs to assist the students to perform better from the start of their careers and to provide an upper hand for graduates (Johnston, 2003).

The research methodology used here is a quantitative / positivism approach. This approach is a systematic method of investigation of quantifiable properties and entities (Jobber, 2004).
