Module 8: To improve room climate and communication Essential to creating a positive room climate, is adopting proper communication skills. An instructor is able to relay their expectations using proper communication skills, which in turn enables them to remain in control of the classroom environment. On the other hand, students are able to make enquiries whenever they are unsure about the expectations set before them. It, therefore, holds that teachers are able to control disruptive behaviors while simultaneously maintaining a safe classroom environment.
More often than not, it is easier for teachers to let the fact that they are in a position of authority cloud their interaction with opinionated, obstinate students. Earlier on as an intern at a school, I learnt that brute force was not the way to go when dealing with students prone to exhibiting disruptive behaviors.
