Catholic School Accreditation Responses Response E: The school has incorporated Catholic values into the curriculum. This has been achieved through ensuring every subject provides teachers with the opportunity to strengthen students’ faith. Teachers facilitate class discussions that focus on church’s teachings. In activities such as physical education, students are taught that their bodies are temples that need to be cared for and respected. Students are also introduced to books that encourage them to develop values that help them to become responsible citizens.

The school also ensures that the curriculum standards are challenging, comprehensive, and relevant. Students are assigned projects and reports, and given exams. To measure the effectiveness of student achievement of the SLEs and curriculum standards, all students present a Graduate Culminating Precis. This report summarizes how they have achieved each SLE. The school further ensures that each student is making acceptable progress toward the achievement of SLEs and curriculum standards. Every once a semester, teachers complete an evaluation.

This is done based on a common rubric and using a form that lists SLEs and descriptors for each of them. Students are also given the opportunity to evaluate themselves (St. Joachim School, 30).Technology has further been integrated into the learning process. All classrooms are equipped with Promethean Boards to enhance the process of leaning. Classes also have regular access to the computer lab. There is also the availability of the Zingy Learning program which is an online science program used by the school’s science department.

Furthermore, the school has an account with the Madera County Office of Education which gives teachers access to various online teaching resources. To determine how effectively students are making acceptable progress, teachers assess students through a variety of methods. These include; oral questioning, class discussions, exams, reports and projects. To implement plans to assist students, discussions are held during faculty meetings. Implementation is based upon making adjustments to the curriculum.

Other strategies include making accommodations such as changing student’s seat, tutoring and modifying assignments and testing. Annually, teachers evaluate the results of the IOWA. On a regular basis, the school assesses programs used to support disaggregate groups and ensure acceptable progress for all students. Each year brings a different culture with strengths and areas of growth. To accommodate these changing trends, an evaluation of the IOWA Assessment and Cognitive Abilities testing is conducted.

This assessment enables teachers to know the kind of support students require and how best their learning needs can be addressed. Response G: The school supports and upholds the principle of social justice through support programs such as adopting children from mission schools and collecting money to support them. Moreover, services, resources, and activities to help all students achieve at high levels in both curricular and non-curricular areas are provided. This is achieved through offering a wide range of programs that offers personal and academic growth of students for example, through diverse athletic programs.

Regarding emergencies, the safety committee prepares an annual Emergency preparedness Plan and performs quarterly safety checks in coordination with the diocese. Communication procedures that can provide community with information in the event of an emergency have also been developed. On the other hand, staffs are offered training in first aid. Parents are encouraged to give their input in various initiatives. Improving parent teacher relationships is something important that the school does. Regarding using technology to assist children, there is improved internet bandwidth with a robust wireless access.

Teachers also use a variety of software and internet sites to engage students together with the use of pads to create educational videos. The school provides resources and services to help students with special needs including students with greater learning aptitude. Tools such as Accelerated Reader are used to motivating students to read. Instructional aides are also used. Parents assist by volunteer for individualized support while teachers offer after school tutoring. The school has an upgraded computer lab that also aids to this.

All class rooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards which enhance learning opportunities. Support services needed by students to support high achievement of all students are analyzed. Through the school board and faculty, data is analyzing in regard to support of student growth. The DIBELS assessment for phonetic awareness is also utilized. Acquired data is used to indicate where intervention is needed. Works CitedSt. Joachim. School High Achievement by All Students Towards Clearly Defined SLEs and Curriculum Standards .
